Huisheng Dan (See Gui Tai chapter)
Xiasitai Fang (See *Furen Gui Ancient Formulas*): Whenever a fetus dies in the uterus, the tongue often appears cyanotic or black, the breath is extremely foul accompanied by vomiting, there is no fetal movement felt in the abdomen, and one feels coldness and a heavy bearing sensation in the yin region. These are the signs of a dead fetus.
Use Pingwei San (Atractylodes Combination) 1 liang, decocted with 1 zhong of yellow wine and 1 zhong of river water until 1 zhong remains. Add Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 3 to 5 qian, boil for three to five more boils, and take warm. The dead fetus will liquefy and be discharged; this method is infallible. Another prescription: Use only 3 qian of Puxiao powder, mixed and taken with hot wine and hot tongbian (urine of a healthy young boy). The dead fetus will be expelled immediately. Alternatively, using Foshou San (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction) mixed with wine is also miraculous.
Guixiang San (See *Furen Gui Ancient Formulas*): Treats a dead fetus retained in the uterus unable to be expelled.
Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 3 qian) Shexiang (Moschus, 5 fen)
Grind the above into powder, divide into one dose, and take with wine.
Hupo San (See Wai Fang of Jing Tong Lun)
Failure of the jiaogu (pubic symphysis/pelvic outlet) to open and failure of the chanmen (vulva/cervix) to close are due solely to insufficiency of Yin qi. When Yin qi is insufficient, Qi cannot flow freely, causing the chanmen not to open; if it does not open, childbirth must be difficult. It is appropriate to use Jiawei Xionggui Tang (Modified Chuanxiong and Danggui Decoction) to tonify and open the passage, yielding great miraculous effects. Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Ingredients Great Supplement Decoction) may also be used.
Jiawei Xionggui Tang (See Wai Fang of Huatai Lun)
Shiquan Dabu Tang (See Wai Beiyong Fang of Tiaojing Lun)
Failure of the chanmen to close results from severe deficiency of Yin qi, leading to an inability to secure and retain; or it may be caused by Yin fire flowing downward. Consequently, symptoms may include yinting protrusion (prolapse), swelling, or involuntary dribbling (leakage). If both Qi and Blood are deficient, Shiquan Dabu Tang added with Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) should be used to tonify and astringe. If pain is accompanied by heat sensation, Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) is suitable. If worry and overthinking injure the Spleen causing blood heat, Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Heart-Nourishing Decoction) is indicated. If sudden anger injures the Liver stirring up fire, Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) is prescribed.
Jiawei Xiaoyao San (See Jing Buding chapter)
Jiawei Guipi Tang (See Tailou chapter)
Longdan Xiegan Tang from *Liangfang* (See *Gufu Bazhen · Han Zhen*), also known as Longdan Tang. It treats damp-heat in the Liver channel, characterized by red and scanty or painful urination, or distension in the hypochondrium, bitter taste, and alternating chills and fever. It is suitable for any syndrome of excess (redundancy) in the Liver channel.
Longdancao (Radix Gentianae, stir-fried with wine) Renshen (Radix Ginseng) Tiandong (Radix Asparagi) Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis) Sheng Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, raw) Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis, stir-fried) Shanzhi (Fructus Gardeniae) Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, each 5 fen) Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, 7 fen) Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 qian) Wuwei (Fructus Schisandrae, 3 fen)
Decoct in 1.5 zhong of water and take.
For uterine inversion or prolapse where the organ fails to retract and falls outward, Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment Qi Decoction) added with Cu Chao Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, vinegar-fried) should be used to astringe and lift. Alternatively, fumigation and washing with decoction of Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri) is also effective, or fumigation/washing with Liuhuang Tang (Sulfur Decoction) and application of Liuhuang San (Sulfur Powder).
One formula: For postpartum uterine non-retraction, fumigate and wash with decoction of Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae), Huoxiang (Herba Agastachis), and Chun Gen Bai Pi (Cortex Toosendan). This is miraculous.
One formula: For postpartum prolapse of the zichang (rectum or vaginal wall), fumigate and wash externally with decoction of Zhike (Fructus Aurantii), Hezi (Fructus Terminaliae Chebulae), Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), and Baifan (Alumen). If it does not retract, moxa-burn Baihui (GV20) at the vertex several times, and it will rise back.
One formula: For uterine prolapse, grind 14 Ricini Semina (Ricini Semen) into a paste and apply to the vertex. Wash off immediately after retraction.
One formula: For postpartum vaginal prolapse, place stir-fried Cnidii Fructus (Cnidii Fructus) in a silk bag and apply heat (ironing/moxa-like therapy) to the area; this also treats yintong (yin pain). Another method: Decoct 5 liang of Cnidii Fructus and 14 Wumei (Fructus Mume) in water, wash 5-6 times daily.
