Lu Zhongyang stated: After the illness of slow convulsion (Man Jing), or due to vomiting and diarrhea causing stomach deficiency, or due to weak qi triggered by fright, if the whites of the eyes appear like pale ink and dysentery presents with greenish-yellow stool, this type of diarrhea should be treated with warming and tonifying methods. The primary formulas are Zhi Sheng Bao Ming Dan (Supreme Holy Life-Preserving Pill) or Gou Teng Yin (Uncaria Decoction).
If milk passes down with the feces, Xiao Ru Wan (Digest Milk Pill) or Jin Shi Wan (Promote Appetite Pill) should be used as the primary treatment.
If there is slight thirst, panting and dryness in the heart and spleen, along with feverish agitation, this type of diarrhea is particularly difficult to treat. The primary formula is Chen Sha Wu Ling San (Cinnabar Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction); if cold signs are present, Ding Ming Yin Zi (Life-Determining Decoction) should be used. Subsequently, Wen Jing Zhu Jun San (Warm Convulsion Lord Zhu Powder) or Shui Jing Tai Yi Dan (Sleep-Fright Taiyi Pill) should be administered.
Zhi Sheng Bao Ming Dan (Supreme Holy Life-Preserving Pill) - See Question 14.
Gou Teng Yin (Uncaria Decoction) - See Question 21.
Xiao Ru Wan (Digest Milk Pill) - See Question 60.
Jin Shi Wan (Promote Appetite Pill) - See Question 47.

Ingredients: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, removed rhizome), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, peeled), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, each 1 liang), Chen Sha (Cinnabaris, water-ground, 0.5 liang), Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla, 3 qian), Gou Teng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis, 0.5 liang), She Xiang (Moschus, 0.5 qian).

Take half a pill per dose, ground in Bo He Tang (Mentha Decoction). If stool color is normal, take with Jujube Decoction. For night crying, grind in Deng Xin Cao and Gou Teng Decoction. Adding Bai Zhu, Bai Fu Ling, and Bai Shao Yao is especially effective.
Tang Shi stated: Pediatric dysentery syndromes are all caused by irregular diet, such as consuming fruits, nuts, or meat without restraint. Since the spleen and stomach are still weak and cannot digest and transform food properly, stagnation accumulates in the zang-fu organs, resulting in dysentery. Heat clashing results in red dysentery; wind-cold qi entering the intestines and stomach causes fluid stagnation, resulting in white dysentery; if mixed with green, it indicates fright accumulation; if resembling fish brains with severe abdominal pain, it indicates specific pathological conditions. Generally, among the eight types of dysentery, whether cold, heat, red, or white, although the medicinal properties differ, the treatment methods are not far apart. In cases where red and white are mixed, one must first clear heat accumulation, using agents containing Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), and Po Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) to remove heat toxins. Then, use Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), and Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) to resolve heat. The dysentery will naturally stop, and pain will subside; this is a brilliant method. If dysentery persists, regulate with agents containing Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix) and Shu Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium preparatum), and recovery will occur naturally. In cases of spleen deficiency, do not lightly use astringent agents like Ying Su Ke (Papaveris Pericarpium), as this will lead to critical danger. Instead, use Mo Shi Zi (Myrobalani Fructus), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini), and Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix) to stop dysentery, which is perfect. Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus) and Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix) are essential herbs.
For Jin Kou Li (Jammed-Mouth Dysentery) where the patient cannot eat, Shi Lian San (Lotus Seed Powder) is the primary formula; Xiang Fu San (Fragrant Meat Powder) is also applicable. For cold dysentery resembling bean curd dregs with abdominal pain, Wei Feng Tang (Stomach Wind Decoction) is the primary formula. For spleen toxin dysentery with internal heat, take Xiang Lian Wan (Fragrant Coptis Pill), Huang Lian Xiang Ru San (Coptis and Elsholtzia Powder), Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Decoction) without Gui Zhi, Mao Hua Tang (Thatch Flower Decoction), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus), Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) and other agents. First, provide detoxification and fever reduction, then promote appetite and digestion, separate fluids from grain, widen the intestines, and relieve pain. Use Shui Jin Dan (Water-Soaked Pill), Ju Fang Bai Du San (Bureau Formula Detoxification Powder), Di Yu Yin (Sanguisorba Decoction), and Kuan Chang Zhi Qiao San (Intestine-Widening Aurantium Powder). For heat with persistent diarrhea, San Huang Shu Ai Tang (Three Yellows Prepared Mugwort Decoction) is the primary formula. For stagnation and blockage, Shen Xiong Wan (Divine Ligusticum Pill) can also be used. For severe heat with restlessness, Huang Lian Jie Du Tang (Coptis Decoction for Resolving Toxicity) resolves it; Po Huo San (Fire-Sprinkling Powder) is also effective.

If the child does not know how to eat, place it near the nose, and they will naturally want to eat. This formula treats toxic accumulation in the stomach opening, extremely wonderful.
Wei Feng Tang (Stomach Wind Decoction) - Treats adults and children where wind-cold invades the intestines and stomach due to deficiency, causing undigested food and water, pouring diarrhea, empty fullness in abdomen and hypochondrium, borborygmus, and pain. Also treats intestinal-stomach damp-toxin, dysentery resembling bean curd dregs. Or passage of blood stasis, day and night without limit, all suitable for this formula.
