Tang Shi stated: These four conditions all result from the stagnation of Qi and blood, compounded by the invasion of heat-toxin pathogenic factors, leading to the accumulation and formation of carbuncles (Yong), furuncles (Jie), swelling, and toxic sores. The *Beiji Shenyuan Fang* records that in the initial stage before suppuration, when a slight head is visible with redness, swelling, and dull pain, human saliva should be applied frequently at midnight, which will cause the lesion to dissipate. If suppuration has already formed, the Tianwu San Paste Formula should be used. For treating small carbuncles, sores, toxic furuncles, and swellages, the Loulu San can be administered; this is a truly effective prescription. In cases of severe heat, Qing Jiedu Wan, Sishun Qingliang San supplemented with Fangfeng and Lianqiao, or Xuan Shen Ji may be taken; Wufu Huadu Dan is particularly excellent, and Lianqiao Tang is also suitable. Apply Qinglu San over the affected area, leaving a small opening, and subsequently use Jingdu Yanzi to draw the sore closed for therapeutic effect. In cases of severe heat, Liangge San may also be administered.
**Tianwu San Paste Formula**
*Tian Nan Xing*, *Chi Xiao Dou*, *Chao Wu*, *Huang Bo*.
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder in equal proportions. Mix with fresh ginger juice and apply to the affected area. Mixing with rice vinegar yields better results.
**Loulu San** Treats pediatric carbuncles and sores, as well as erysipelas, sores, and furuncles.
*Lou Lu*, *Mahuang* (roots and nodes removed), *Mang Xiao*, *Lian Qiao*, *Huang Qin*, *Chuan Sheng Ma*, *Gan Cao* (each 2.5 qian), *Chuan Da Huang* (1 liang, stir-fried), *Bai Lian* (7.5 qian).
Crush and scatter the above herbs. Take 2 qian per dose, add one cup of water, and decoct until five-tenths of the water remains. Strain the dregs. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age. Take warm at any time. Additional herbs such as *Qiang Huo*, *Jing Jie*, *Chuan Xiong*, *Fang Feng*, and *Zhi Ke* may be added.
**Qing Jiedu Wan** See Question 90.
**Sishun Qingliang Yin** See Question 44.
**Xuan Shen Ji** Resolves various types of heat and eliminates sores and furuncles.
*Sheng Di Huang*, *Xuan Shen* (each 1 liang), *Da Huang* (baked, 0.5 liang).
Grind the above into powder. Make pills using refined honey, sized like paulownia seeds. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in a decoction of *Deng Xin Cao* and *Zhu Ye*. A small amount of rock sugar may be added. Herbs such as *Qiang Huo*, *Chuan Xiong*, *Chi Shao Yao*, *Lian Qiao*, and *Fang Feng* may also be added.
Another Prescription: Treats residual toxins after exanthematous diseases (such as measles or smallpox) that fail to disperse, causing persistent widespread sores. It has potent detoxifying effects.
*Xuan Shen*, *Chi Shao Yao*, *Sheng Di Huang*, *Chi Fu Ling*, *Jing Jie*, *Fang Feng*, *Mu Tong*, *Jie Geng*, *Huang Qin*, *Zhu Sha*, *Qing Dai* (equal parts).
Grind the above into fine powder. Make pills using refined honey, sized like *Euryale Seed* (Qianshi). Take one pill per dose with mint tea. Adjust dosage according to the child's age.
**Wufu Huadu Dan** Treats accumulated heat-toxins in children, manifesting as fright, restlessness, manic agitation, flushed cheeks, dry throat, mouth and tongue ulcers, restless sleep at night, delirium, irritability, and multiple sores and furuncles on the head, face, and body.
*Xuan Shen*, *Jie Geng* (each 2 liang), *Fu Ling* (2.5 liang), *Ren Shen*, *Ya Xiao*, *Qing Dai* (each 1 liang), *Gan Cao* (7.5 qian), *She Xiang* (one zi), *Jin Bo*, *Yin Bo* (each ten leaves, used as coating).
Grind the above into powder. Form pills with refined honey, sized like *Euryale Seed*. Take one pill per dose with mint tea, at any time. This formula also treats residual toxins attacking upward after sores and rashes, causing salivary bleeding from gums/teeth and foul odor. Dissolve one pill in fresh *Sheng Di Huang* juice for ingestion, and brush the oral cavity with a chicken feather.
**Lianqiao Tang** See Question 3, Da Lianqiao Yin Zi.
**Qinglu San** Treats back carbuncles and all malignant sores where external poultices have not induced rupture.
*Bai Ji*, *Bai Lian*, *Bai Wei*, *Bai Zhi*, *Bai Xian Pi*, *Pu Xiao*, *Qing Dai*, *Huang Bo*, *Da Huang*, *Tian Hua Fen*, *Qing Lu Ye* (i.e., *Fu Rong Ye*), *Lao Long Pi* (i.e., old pine bark, equal parts).
Grind the above into fine powder. Mix with fresh ginger juice and apply, leaving a small opening. Re-moisten with ginger juice if it dries out.
**Jingdu Yanzi** Treats early-stage sores and furuncles; application causes immediate resolution. For established lesions, it promotes rapid rupture.
Scallion roots (seven), *Mu Bie* (seven), *Bai Zhi* (three), *Ba Dou* (fourteen), *Huang Dan* (2 liang), Oil (4 liang).
First, place the first four ingredients in oil and boil over high heat, stirring with a willow wood spatula until the *Bai Zhi* turns black. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs. Return the filtrate to a crucible and boil over low heat. Add *Huang Dan* and continue boiling until it becomes a purple-black paste. This treats various sores and furuncles, draining pus and closing the wound.
**Jingdu Various Swelling and Pain Poultice**
*Pu Huang*, *Da Huang*, *Huang Bo*, *Zhen Fen*, *Lian Qiao*, *Bai Zhi*, *Bai Ji*, *Bai Lian*, *Mu Li*, *Dan Shen* (equal parts).

It is suitable for all these conditions.
*Chuan Da Huang*, *Pu Xiao*, *Gan Cao* (honey-fried, each 1 liang), *Lian Qiao* (2 liang), *Zhi Zi Ren*, *Huang Qin*, *Bo He Ye* (cleaned, each 0.5 liang).
Crush and scatter the above herbs. Take 2 qian per dose, add one cup of water, seven leaves of *Zhu Ye*, and a little honey. Decoct until four-tenths of the water remains. Take warm after meals. Adjust dosage according to the child's age.
