If the interior of the eye is red, it indicates Heart Heat (Xin Re), which should be primarily treated with Daochi San (Coptis Decoction). If the color is pale red, it indicates Deficient Heat of the Heart (Xin Xu Re), which should be primarily treated with Shengxi San (Raw Rhinoceros Horn Decoction). Greenness indicates Liver Heat (Gan Re), primarily treated with Xieqing Wan (Drain the Blue Pill); if the color is shallow and pale, tonification should be used. Yellowness indicates Spleen Heat (Pi Re), primarily treated with Xiehuang San (Drain the Yellow Powder). Lack of luster in the eyes indicates Kidney Deficiency (Shen Xu), primarily treated with Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill). According to the "Longmu Lun" regarding the symptom of strabismus or upward deviation of the eyes in children, this is all due to accidental blows or strikes that damage the head, face, forehead, and temples, combined with falls and tumbles, causing the child's Liver to suffer from Wind-Strike (Jing Feng), thereby resulting in both eyes deviating. It is appropriate to take Niuhuang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill). For "Kouyi Blood Eye" (redness and swelling of eyelids with bleeding), it is appropriate to take Shengshu Dihuang San (Raw and Prepared Rehmannia Powder) to circulate Qi and Blood; for cases caused by Heat-Toxin (Re Du), take Xiaofangfeng Tang (Minor Saposhnikovia Decoction); for those caused by Wind-Toxin (Feng Du), take Xiaoliuqi Yin (Minor Moving-Qi Drink); for those caused by Accumulated Toxin (Ji Du), take Xiaojuhua Gao (Minor Chrysanthemum Paste) as the primary treatment. When pox or measles toxins enter the eyes, Jueming San (Cassia Seed Powder) and Mimenghua San (Honey-flowered Buddleja Powder) are primarily used; additionally, Xijiao San (Rhinoceros Horn Powder) and Shinan San (Fatsia Powder) to clear the upper body are excellent. Or, if after diarrhea the eyes appear covered by a membrane, or if pox/rash toxins sink into the abdomen causing the eyes to be unable to open, and in various conditions where the eyes are fixed without luster, these are difficult to treat.
