Death and Life Judgment by Fist Clenching
Method for judging the prognosis of death or life in infants and children with acute or chronic convulsions (Jing Feng) based on fist clenching: For males, clenching this fist indicates a favorable condition; for females, it indicates an unfavorable condition.
For females, if the thumb is tucked inward while clenching this fist, it is a favorable condition; for males, clenching this fist indicates an unfavorable condition and is incurable.
Regardless of gender, for children aged three to thirteen or fourteen years, those who clench this fist have no chance of survival out of every hundred cases. This is an effective method for diagnosing convulsions.
General Diagram of the Face
The head is the convergence point of all Yang meridians. The face reflects the prosperity or decline of Qi and Blood of the Zang organs. The Zang organs are the residence of Shen (Spirit), and facial complexion is the banner of Shen. When the Zang organs are failing, the complexion becomes withered; when the Zang organs are robust, the complexion shines brightly.
Therefore, those with lustrous facial features live long, while those with withered appearances die young. In observing infants and children, one must first inspect the flourishing or declining state of Qi and Blood coloration to determine auspiciousness or inauspiciousness.
The Zhongting (area below the nose tip) and Tianting (center of the forehead), Sikong (above the glabella) and Yintang (glabella), as well as the square and broad areas at the corners of the forehead, indicate life or death if pathological signs appear. Cyan or black colors indicate severe convulsions.
If the body is soft, moist, and lustrous, but the face is sunken and damaged, it is critical. Black lips are the most difficult to treat. Cyan and black colors indicate worry; a dim and dark complexion is truly distressing.
Face Corresponding to Five Zang Organs Diagram
The face corresponds to the Five Zang organs and matches them with five colors. Disease in a specific area indicated by a specific color follows the rule: favorable if conforming to the Four Seasons, unfavorable if conflicting with them. Treatment should follow the respective locations.
Face Corresponding to Eight Trigrams Diagram 1
Face Corresponding to Eight Trigrams Diagram 2
The relationships of generation, restriction, prosperity, phase, rest, imprisonment, death, and extinction among the Five Elements depend on their position to determine auspiciousness or inauspiciousness, deciding life and death according to the Trigrams.
Face Corresponding to Five Colors Diagram
Observe the Tianting (center of the forehead) and both cheekbones. Look for patterns of cyan, yellow, purple, black, or red, whether they enter the mouth or not, to divine auspiciousness, inauspiciousness, life, and death with divine accuracy. If there are no patterns except for black, or if the Tianting and both foreheads are covered with black mist, there is no chance of survival out of every hundred cases.
Face Corresponding to Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches Diagram
Observe the five colors on the face to know diseases of the five Zang organs. Cyan indicates Liver disease, Red indicates Heart disease, Yellow indicates Spleen disease, White indicates Lung disease, and Black indicates Kidney disease. Additionally, observe which part shows the color of the Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Bladder, and San Jiao (Triple Burner). Treating according to the corresponding meridians will leave no room for the disease to hide.
Diagram of Black Patterns Invading Areas
If these patterns form black spots appearing on the face, it is necessarily a terminal illness, unrescuable even by miraculous medicines. Observe the color further: for acute convulsions, cyan is seen; for chronic convulsions, yellow is seen. White patterns facing forward can still be treated. However, if black patterns lock the eyes or pass over the eyes upward, death ensues. Purple also indicates death.
Face Corresponding to Five Mountains and Four Rivers Diagram
The face corresponds to the Five Mountains and Four Rivers. The round head symbolizes Heaven, the square mouth symbolizes Earth, the eyes are like the Sun and Moon, blood vessels resemble rivers, hair resembles vegetation, and sound resembles thunder. Those with loud and far-reaching sounds are noble; those with thin sounds lacking resonance are poor. By listening to the voice and observing the complexion, nobility or poverty can be determined.
Diagram of Various Facial Symptoms Verified by Patterns
Patterns resembling double hooks indicate Tai Yang Cold Damage (Shang Han). Patterns resembling rings with feet indicate food stagnation (Shang Shi). Patterns resembling three curves of a worm indicate poisoning from ingested substances. If patterns show cyan, white, or red entering the mouth, or crossing the eyes, the condition is severe but treatable. If black is seen, it is untreatable.
