The wife of a clan nephew, Dai, presented with slippery and large pulses at both cun positions, and deep and faint pulses at both chi positions. She experienced heart pain radiating to the back and back pain radiating to the heart region; when severe, she had to induce vomiting to expel food for relief to occur. Recently, each episode lasted exactly seven days. She could only take plain water and could not ingest any solid food; eating caused vomiting and intensified the pain, which gradually subsided after seven days. This condition had persisted for about seventeen years. Initially, it occurred twice a year, then increased to six or seven times a year, and now occurred once a month. It was treated with Jiqi Wan (Accumulated Qi Pill), and the root cause was eliminated before the course of medication was completed.
Lai Xing, an old servant, suffered from cough, distending and painful swelling in the chest, hypochondrium, and upper back, feeling as if pierced by a blade. He had fever and thirst, and previous treatments were ineffective. His pulse was floating and rapid. This was due to wind-cold pathogenic factors stirring and agitating, causing phlegm-fire to surge upward. Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) and Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and Zisuzi (Perillae Fructus) were used to disperse wind-pathogens as minister herbs; Gualouren (Trichosanthis Semen) was used to treat phlegm-fire as sovereign herb; Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos), and Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) served as assistant herbs; Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) served as envoy herbs. The condition resolved after two doses.
A woman who had borne daughters but no sons suffered from excessive thinking and depression. Her urine was obstructed and difficult to pass, accompanied by distension and discomfort for two days. A physician from Xi County prescribed Beijiji Wan (Emergency Preparation Pill), stating that once bowel movements were regular, urination would naturally become free. Unexpectedly, after her bowels moved, her urine became completely obstructed with only drops passing, and the distension and discomfort became more urgent. She could not endure it for a moment and contemplated suicide. Her family urgently sought my treatment. I asked her: "Has your menstrual flow occurred recently?" She replied: "It has been ten days since my last period." Her lower abdomen was swollen and hard, like a large watermelon. After the bowel movement, she was fatigued and short of breath, with a critical situation akin to burning eyebrows. I said: "This is Zhuanpao disease (urinary retention due to bladder displacement/pressure). If not treated urgently, it will be dangerous." I prescribed Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), adding one small wine cup of Jiucai juice (Allium tuberosum juice) just before administration. After ingestion, a strong woman was selected to enter the room. The patient lay horizontally on the bed. The strong woman placed the patient's knees bent over her shoulders, suspending the patient's lower body in the air. She lifted and swayed the patient several times to invert the position of the bladder, then slowly lowered her. Before the patient could dress, urine shot out like an arrow. The urine was hot as boiling water and black as ink, filling the basin in an instant. The lower abdomen immediately subsided, and she was cured. Later, several other cases, regardless of gender, were successfully treated with this method.
