Brother Guiting originally suffered a fall from a sedan chair, injuring his waist and hypochondrium. The pain was so severe that he could not turn or lie on his side, and coughing exacerbated the pain. He was prescribed Sanzhi Dahuang (Three-processed Rhubarb) 2 qian, Taoren (Peach Kernel) 1.5 qian, Xingren (Apricot Seed), Honghua (Safflower), and Tianguafen (Trichosanthes Root) each 1 qian, Chansanjia (Pangolin Scale) 8 fen, and Gancao (Licorice) 5 fen. Decocted in water and taken orally, after two doses, bowel movement was achieved. Subsequently, Wujia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), Honghua (Safflower), Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root), Baishao (White Peony Root), Danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza), Gancao (Licorice), Taoren (Peach Kernel), Chansanjia (Pangolin Scale), and Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) were decocted into four doses for consumption, resulting in significant relief of pain. Later, due to excessive consumption of meat and greasy foods, he experienced wheezing, coughing, and lower back pain, with a heavy, dragging pain in the right shoulder and back. Having a pre-existing condition of damp-heat and phlegm accumulation, he was treated with Weilingxian (Clematis Root), Zisuzi (Perilla Fruit), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange), Jiu Huangqin (Scutellaria Root processed with wine), Banxiaqu (Pinellia Fermented Paste), Gualouren (Trichosanthes Seed), Gancao (Licorice), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Jianghuang (Turmeric), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), and Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome). After ingestion, borborygmus occurred, and sitting induced a sensation of heaviness; this indicated that the phlegm accumulation had moved but failed to discharge. He was then given Chansanjia (Pangolin Scale), Dangguiwei (Tail of Angelica Sinensis), Honghua (Safflower), Xingren (Apricot Seed), Zhike (Bitter Orange), Dahuang (Rhubarb), Luobozu (Radish Seed), Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome), Ezhu (Curcuma Zedoary), and Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel). Following administration, copious amounts of thick, turbid, and bloody stasis were discharged via stool, and the pain subsided. He was subsequently regulated and recovered using Baohe Wan (Preserve Harmony Pill).
Wang Shi, my cousin's wife, presented with surging and large pulses at both cun positions, and a slippery and large pulse at the right guan position. Between May and June, she invariably expectorated purple-black blood clots. Her heel was swollen, itchy, and painful, with occasional discharge of yellow fluid. She was treated with Mudanpi (Tree Peony Bark), Shanzhizi (Gardenia Fruit), Xuanshen (Scrophularia Root), Gancao (Licorice), Baishao (White Peony Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Huashi (Talcum), and Taoren (Peach Kernel). Four doses resulted in a cure.
Cheng Shi, the wife of my clan brother, was five months pregnant when she developed dysentery with pus and blood in the stool, tenesmus, and unbearable heaviness and dragging sensation in the lower back. She was administered Baishao (White Peony Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), Sharen (Amomum Fruit), Tiao Qin (Scutellaria Root), Jiu Lian (Coptis Rhizome processed with wine), Aiye (Mugwort Leaf), and Chenpi (Tangerine Peel). At night, pain persisted, and dysentery occurred three times. The following day, copious amounts of stool resembling rotten fish intestines were discharged. At midnight, sudden redness, swelling, and intolerable pain appeared on the anterior half of the soles of both feet. This was attributed to deficiency of the Jueyin Liver Meridian and downward sinking of fetal qi. Blood and qi should be tonified. She was given Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Zisu (Perilla Leaf), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice), and Binglang (Areca Seed). Pain ceased by midnight, and sleep followed. Slight pain remained in the left foot. A subsequent prescription of Renshen (Ginseng Root), Zisu (Perilla Leaf), Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Baishao (White Peony Root), Gancao (Licorice), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Fuling (Poria), Dafupi (Areca Pericarp), and Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) completely alleviated the left foot pain. Finally, Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) supplemented with Baishao (White Peony Root), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), and Fuling (Poria) was used for regulation and tonification, ensuring the fetus remained unharmed.
