Postpartum delirium and hallucinations arise from deficiency of both Qi and Blood, causing the Shen (Spirit) and Hun (Ethereal Soul) to lose their foundation. The Heart stores the Shen and governs Blood; speech is the manifestation of the Heart's Shen. When the Heart has sufficient Blood, the Shen remains stable, and speech does not occur recklessly. The Liver stores the Hun and Blood, and the eyes are the orifices of the Liver. When the eyes receive nourishment from Blood, vision becomes clear, and the pupils remain bright and focused. However, if postpartum Blood and Qi are suddenly depleted, the Heart-Shen loses its control, resulting in incoherent speech; the Liver-Hun lacks a foundation, leading to visual hallucinations. Moreover, the Heart is the master of the whole body, and the eyes are the gathering point of all meridians. If deficiency syndromes manifest in the Heart and Eyes, it can be inferred that the Twelve Organs each fail in their respective functions. Therefore, vision, hearing, speech, and movement may all exhibit false or delusional qualities. The treatment method should be determined by discussing whether there is abdominal mass pain during the postpartum period and its urgency. If, after the delivery of the fetus, the abdominal mass pain persists, one should first administer Shenghua Tang (Life-Restoring Decoction) for two or three doses to resolve stasis and alleviate pain. Once the pain ceases, continue with Ginseng-Enhanced Shenghua Tang or Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), followed by regulation using Anshen Dingzhi Wan/Tang (Calming the Spirit and Stabilizing Will Pills/Decoction). If a considerable time has passed since childbirth and both physical form and Qi-Blood are severely deficient, the primary approach should be strong tonification to generate and nourish Qi and Blood, calm the Spirit, and stabilize the Will. Continue medication until the therapeutic force is sufficient, at which point the disease will be completely cured. Patients' families should not seek rapid effects, and physicians should not attribute symptoms to evil spirits. Using superstitious methods such as spraying holy water or startling with ritual rulers often leads to untreatable conditions. Treating this illness requires taking effect after approximately ten doses of medication. Zhu Danxi stated: "When a disease presents with severe deficiency, the symptoms may resemble those caused by evil spirits." He also said: "To drain away the pathogenic factor, one must first tonify the deficiency." First regulate the medication, then discuss other ailments. This is a definitive theory from ancient masters regarding the treatment of deficient individuals complicated by external factors. However, people fail to comprehend its meaning, arguing that attacking pathogens and tonifying deficiency cannot be combined in the same formula, believing that only after all pathogens are eliminated can tonification be used. It is difficult to make patients believe this. This applies to the careful management of three conditions: postpartum deficiency syndromes, deficiency wheezing in the elderly, and delirium in frail individuals.
Ningshen Shenghua Tang (Calm-Spirit Life-Restoring Decoction): Treats postpartum persistent abdominal mass pain accompanied by delirium. Aconite (Fuzi) and Atractylodes (Baizhu) should not be used at this stage.

Decoct in water. For the above three scenarios, if accompanied by dry and constipated stool, large doses of Chuanxiong and Danggui should be used to nourish Blood; the dose of Renshen may be reduced. Without several jin of Chuanxiong and Danggui, efficacy is difficult to achieve.
Generally speaking, postpartum deficiency complicated by Cold invasion, or injury from food, although external symptoms appear such as headache, fever, hypochondriac pain, or lower back pain, indicating an exterior syndrome suitable for sweating, one must still strictly adhere to the prohibition of sweating due to postpartum blood loss. Treatment should only involve modifying Shenghua Tang (Life-Restoring Decoction) appropriately to avoid error. Similarly, for severe constipation, one must strictly adhere to the prohibition of purgation due to postpartum blood loss. Only Yangzheng Tang (Support Righteousness Decoction) should be used to assist Blood generation and unblock stagnation, which is extremely safe.
Another prescription, Runchang Zhou (Moisten Intestines Porridge): Treats prolonged postpartum constipation. Use one sheng of Sesame Seeds (Zhimazi), grind into powder, mix with one he of rice, cook into porridge, and eat to moisten the intestines and relieve constipation.
