1. In severe winter, contracting *Shanghan* (Cold Damage) with an inability to sweat: It is advisable to take half a jin of ginger and half a jin of scallions, decoct them into one hu (a large unit of volume) of liquid, and pour it into a large basin. Place a small wooden board across the top of the basin, allowing the patient to sit or lie on it for steam therapy. Surround the area with mats and quilts, exposing only the mouth and nose. At this time, diaphoretic medicines can be administered externally.
2. For patients: Pinch the middle phalanx of the middle finger with the thumb, holding tightly without releasing. Bend all ten fingers, press the palms together between the thighs, and sit firmly. After a long period, sweat will naturally emerge.
3. If diaphoretic medicines fail to induce sweating: Decoct Perilla Leaf (Ziye) in water, place the container under the knees inside the bedding, and apply steam therapy.
Another method: Wrap ginger residue in cotton cloth and rub it over the entire body; sweat will immediately appear.
4. When Shanghan persists for several days without sweating, accompanied by coma, lethargy, fever, and delirious speech, indicating that sweat cannot be expelled: Use a large teapot of boiling water, wrapped in cloth, and place it under the patient's feet for them to tread upon. Within one shichen (two hours), sweat will rise from below upwards, and the illness will be cured.
5. For Shanghan causing inability to sweat: Crush the white bark of the camphor tree, stir-fry it until hot, wrap it in a silk towel, and apply it as a hot compress to the whole body. Sweat will appear within a short time, marking the end of the condition.
6. For Shanghan presenting with fever, headache, and body pain: Take equal parts of fresh ginger, scallions with roots, and fermented soybeans (Danshichu). Mash them together into a paste, apply it to the navel, and bind tightly with silk fabric. Sweat will naturally flow, curing the disease. (Transmitted by Wang Jingming)
7. For Shanghan with no sweat, or prolonged absence of sweating: Take one sweet pear and a piece of ginger, crush them together to extract juice. Add one bowl of child's urine (Tongbian), heat the mixture appropriately, and drink it. Sweating will follow immediately.
8. For Shanghan presenting with tidal fever, no sweat, and constipation lasting five to seven days, where death seems imminent: Administer Tao Ren Cheng Qi Tang (Peach Kernel and Rhubarb Decoction) to purge hard feces resembling stones twice. This will induce profuse sweating and cure the disease. Subsequently, administer two doses of Wen Dan Tang (Warm the Gallbladder Decoction) for regulation and stabilization.
9. Treatment for Shanghan-induced fever and headache, also applicable to common colds:
Ingredients: Fresh Ginger (one piece), Walnuts (seven, crushed with shells), Scallion White (seven stalks with roots), Tea Leaves (a pinch).
Add three bowls of water, boil until hot, and consume. Cover with blankets to induce sweating.
10. Regarding Shanghan leading to coma and loss of consciousness: Ignite Gleditsia Sinensis Spine (Zaojiao Ci) smoke and inhale it into the nostrils. If sneezing occurs, the condition is treatable; if not, it is untreatable, indicating the severance of Lung Qi ascending. For treatable cases:
Immediately take Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit (Zaojia), Pinellia Tuber (Banxia), and Raw Alum (Sheng Baifan, 1.5 qian). Grind them into powder, mix with Ginger Juice, and ingest. Induce vomiting to expel phlegm; recovery of consciousness indicates efficacy.
11. Regarding uncontrollable sweating: Submerge the patient's hair in a basin of water while keeping the feet exposed to cold air. Mix roasted wheat bran, glutinous rice flour, Fossilized Bones (Longgu), and Oyster Shell (Muli) into a fine powder. Dust this mixture over the entire body, and the sweating will cease naturally.
