In cases of fractures, falls, or drops where the skin remains intact but internal injury occurs, blood stasis (Blood Stasis) is inevitable. If injured by metal or stone with broken skin and bleeding, or if excessive blood loss occurs, these two conditions must not be treated with the same method. For those with blood stasis, purgative and resolving methods should be employed; for those with blood loss, tonification combined with promoting blood circulation should be used. One must also observe the severity, location (upper or lower), depth, and differences in the quantity of Qi and Blood within the meridians. The treatment should first focus on expelling blood stasis, unblocking the meridians, harmonizing the Blood to relieve pain, and subsequently regulating Qi, nourishing Blood, and tonifying Stomach Qi. This approach is invariably effective.
Generally, regardless of the patient's constitution or the presence of blood stasis, it is advisable to consume hot child urine (Hot Child Urine) accompanied by wine to eliminate stale matter and generate new vitality, which yields great efficacy.
Regarding fractures from falls: Administer one li of the medicine mixed with yellow wine. After traveling the distance equivalent to a heavy cart moving ten li, the bones will reconnect with an audible sound. Immediately after the fall, realign the bones to their original position, cover them with cotton clothing to prevent exposure to wind, then administer the medicine without moving the body. This medicine is prepared on the Dragon Boat Festival. It is known as "One Li Gold," a secret efficacious prescription passed down from Governor Sun of Daliang.
Herbs: Momordicae Semen (Mugua, 木鳖) (roasted dry on a new tile), Crotonis Fructus (Badou, 巴豆) (one, shelled), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia, 半夏) (one, raw), Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) (5 fen), Myrrh (Moyao, 没药) (5 fen), Pyritum (Ziran Tong, 自然铜) (calcined seven times and quenched in water seven times, use a small amount).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Take one li each time, delivered with good wine. Do not take too much, as excessive promotion of blood circulation may damage healthy Qi.
For severe beating injuries where evil blood attacks the heart, or death caused by being crushed by wood or stone, or fatal falls from heights resulting in unconsciousness and inability to speak: Immediately pry open the mouth and administer the powder using hot child urine.
Another prescription: Burn Ramie Root Fiber (Zhuma, 苎麻) to ash, mix with wine, and ingest.
For unbearable swelling and pain from falls or beatings: Mash fresh green onion (Cong Bai, 葱白) and apply hot compresses to the affected area; this is highly effective.
For limb or arm fractures: Align and fix the fracture site. Heat one bowl of good wine, prick a rooster to let its blood mix into the wine, and drink while hot. Then, mash green onions with roots, stir-fry, apply hot to the injury, bind firmly, and replace when cool. This also treats knife wounds and uncontrollable bleeding.
For fractures: First use a pain-relieving method. Grind Alum (Baifan, 白矾) into powder, take one spoonful, dissolve in one bowl of boiling water, soak a cloth, and apply hot compresses to the injury until pain subsides. Then, realign the bones and apply medicinal plasters.
To treat injury pain, redness, and swelling due to heat-toxin, and for bone setting:
Jiyin Dan (Jiyin Pill)
Herbs: Trichosanthis Radix (Tianhuafen, 天花粉) (3 liang), Curcumae Longae Rhizoma (Jianghuang, 姜黄), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishao Yao, 赤芍药) (1 liang each).
Grind into powder, mix with strong tea, and apply to the affected area.
To treat bone fractures from falls and beatings: First manually stretch and pull, then mash one or two young chickens and apply the paste externally. Clamp with fir wood boards externally, change the next day. The effect is miraculous.
Regarding severe beating injuries causing constipation and urinary retention, unresolved blood stasis, abdominal distension, upward attack on the heart and abdomen leading to suffocation and near-death: This medicine expels blood stasis downward. Only after this can tonic medicines for injuries be taken.
