Li Feng (Leprosy) is the wind of heaven and earth that harms all things; it belongs to the Qi of Dry Metal. Therefore, it causes sores that do not suppurate and dryness without moisture. The nature of Dry Metal is astringent and obstructive. Once it invades the human body, it stagnates the circulation of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, causing insensitivity and numbness. Hair loss and eyebrow loss occur because Dry Wind damages Ying and Wei, leading to insecure Exterior Qi. Generalized leprosy rashes indicate that both Upper Jiao Qi and Blood are diseased. All pain belongs to Excess; all itching belongs to Deficiency. The itching in Li Feng is indeed often caused by parasites, but the Deficiency of Wei Qi cannot be denied. For this syndrome, moistening and drying-resolving formulas should be used as the primary treatment. Baihua She (Bungarus multicinctus, White-banded Snake) belongs to the category of blood and Qi tonics. Using substances that nourish blood and Qi to dispel wind will naturally provide lubrication. However, its nature contains toxicity. Through the principle of "like attracts like," it can reach directly to the abode of the Li Feng toxin, ensuring immediate efficacy. Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Fructus, Chinese Tamarind Pod) has a nature good at cleansing the body, thus it can also cleanse the disease. Ku Shen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, Sophora Root) has a nature good at clearing heat, thus it can also dispel wind. In the past, Fangfeng Tongsheng San was used to treat this condition. This formula is a sweating and purgative method, which is not suitable for those with deficient Ying and Wei. Now, replace it with Yupingfeng Wan. Huangqi (Astragali Radix, Astragalus Root) can drain pus and tonify the exterior; Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, Saposhnikovia Root) can promote Qi flow and disperse pathogens; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Large-headed Atractylodes Rhizome) can solidify the Spleen and tonify muscles.
