Section 1 discusses Fetal Cold (Tai Han). If the nursing mother contracts cold during pregnancy, and the infant is subsequently exposed to external pathogenic factors after birth, it may cause symptoms such as a bluish-white complexion, cold extremities, dark green or black stools, cold mouth with abdominal pain, and shivering. In such cases, Danggui San should be administered immediately.
Danggui San (Angelica Decoction)
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, stir-fried), Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix, honey-fried), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi seu Scapulae, finely ground), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) (each 2 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take one zi dose each time, mixed with breast milk for administration. Administer three times daily. Dosage should be adjusted according to the infant's age and size.
Section 2 discusses Fetal Obesity (Tai Fei). Upon birth, the infant has abundant subcutaneous fat and a ruddy complexion throughout the body. After one month of age, the infant gradually becomes emaciated, the sclera turns yellowish, the pupils appear pinkish-red, there is heat sensation in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest), difficulty in defecation, and frequent salivation. The Bathing Method (Yuti Fa) should be employed. Additionally, observe the parents' body types; an obese parent does not necessarily give birth to a thin child, nor does a thin parent necessarily give birth to an obese child.
Section 3 discusses Fetal Frailty (Tai Qie). The infant lacks luster in the face, has weak muscles, watery white stools, pallor without blood color, frequent hiccupping and belching, and dull eyesight. The Bathing Method (Yuti Fa) should be primarily used for treatment.
Bathing Method (Yuti Fa)
Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, powdered, 2 qian), Xieshao (Scorpio, venom removed), Zhusha (Cinnabar, 0.5 qian each), Baifan (Alumen), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 2 qian each), Wsheme Rou (Dinodryis Carinata Meat, 3 qian, soaked in wine, dried, and powdered), Shexiang (Moschus, 1 zi).
Grind the above ingredients uniformly together. Use 3 qian each time, add three bowls of water, a handful of peach branches (Taozhi), and five to seven leaves. Decoct together until boiling ten times. Bathe the infant while warm. Do not bathe the back during the process.
Section 4 discusses Fetal Jaundice (Tai Huang). This condition arises from heat transmitted from the nursing mother to the fetus. Upon birth, the infant presents with jaundice covering the entire body and face, resembling the color of gold. Symptoms include high fever, constipation, dysuria with urine resembling Gardenia juice, anorexia, and incessant crying. Dihuang Tang should be used for treatment.
Dihuang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction)
Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Chi Fuling (Poria cum Rosa, red-colored), Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (equal parts).
Cut the above ingredients. Take 5 qian each time, decoct in water. The nursing mother should take this before meals, and a few drops should be applied to the infant's mouth.
