Discussion on Infant Fontanelle Delayed Closure (Jie Lu): This refers to the condition where the fontanelle remains unclosed long after birth. As the child grows, they tend to be melancholic and smile less, have prominent whites of the eyes, a pale complexion, and emaciated limbs. These are all caused by Kidney Deficiency.
Discussion on treating infant cranial separation and unclosed sutures: This is due to insufficient Kidney Qi. The Kidneys govern the bone marrow, and the brain is the Sea of Marrow. If Kidney Qi is weak and unable to function properly, it leads to an insufficiency of brain marrow, thus preventing closure. Zhu Danxi treated Jie Lu using Ba Wu Tang (Eight Substance Decoction); if heat signs are present, add Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian), Cortex Scutellariae (Huangqin), and Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao) stir-fried with wine, decocted in water for oral administration. Externally, tightly bind the head with cloth and apply powder of Rhizoma Bletillae (Baiji).
