Facial Zang-Fu Colors Corresponding to the Four Seasons

The Liver governs Spring, its color being Green; the Heart governs Summer, its color being Red; the Spleen governs Late Summer, its color being Yellow; the Lung governs Autumn, its color being White; the Kidney governs Winter, its color being Black. These are referred to as the intrinsic colors of the Five Zang organs, flourishing on the face according to the four seasons. If the color is neither deep nor shallow, but maintains luster and moisture, it indicates a state of harmony and health. If the color is heavy and deep, it indicates excess in the corresponding Zang organ; if light and pale, it indicates deficiency in the corresponding Zang organ.

Facial and Ocular Colors Indicating Life and Death
The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) states: In any illness, if the face is yellow while the eyes are green, red, white, or black, the patient will not die. The *Shengji Jing* (Holy Relief Classic) states: The Spleen's true qi is the root. The reason why a yellow face indicates survival is due to the manifestation of true qi externally. Conversely, if the face is green with red eyes, green face with white eyes, green face with black eyes, black face with white eyes, or red face with green eyes, the patient will die. This is because there is no external flourishing of Spleen color, and the true qi has been exhausted.
