Infants and children presenting with swelling of the yin (genitals) and sores are suffering from deficiency of the Kidney channel, allowing pathogenic factors to invade. The Qi of the Kidney connects with the yin region. When pathogenic factors contend and surge downward, the yin becomes swollen; in severe cases, the surging attacks and generates sores. Additionally, there are cases where external wind-dampness invades the skin, causing itching in the yin region, which leads to sores after scratching. The following prescriptions are recorded.
Taoren Wan (Peach Kernel Pill)
Treats swelling of the yin in infants and children.
Tribulus Fructus (Baijili, 白蒺藜) half liang, stir-fried and thorns removed; Prunus persica Seed (Taoren, 桃仁) three qian, soaked in decoction, peel and tip removed, double-kernel ones excluded, stir-fried with bran until yellow; Paeonia suffruticosa Root Bark (Mudanpi, 牡丹皮) heart removed, half liang; Cinnamomum cassia Inner Bark (Guixin, 桂心) half liang; Prunus humilis Seed (Yulingren, 郁李仁) one qian, soaked in decoction, peel removed and stir-fried.
Grind the above into a fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of millet seeds. Administer ten pills per dose, taken with warm wine, before milk or food intake.
Hulian San (Anchored Lotus Powder)
Treats swelling and sores of the yin.
Coptis chinensis Rhizome (Huhuanglian, 胡黄连) half liang; Lead Carbonate (Hufen, 胡粉) half liang; Alum Ash (Baifanhui, 白矾灰) one qian.
Grind the above into a fine powder. Apply a small amount mixed with oil to the affected area. Another method uses equal parts of Coptis chinensis Rhizome (Huanglian, 黄连) and Lead Carbonate (Hufen, 胡粉) ground into powder, applied with fragrant balm oil.
Another prescription: Treat as above. Apply ash made from human feces or dog feces. Alternatively, apply finely ground ash from horse bone or dog bone.
To treat swelling of the yin in infants and children: Roast the penis of a fox until yellow and charred, pound into a fine powder, and administer orally. Alternatively, crush Blister Beetle (Wuqing, 芜青) and apply topically. Alternatively, apply Silverfish (Yizhongbaiyu, 衣中白鱼). Alternatively, apply juice extracted from mulberry root bark (Sangbaipi, 桑白皮).
To treat painful and itchy sores on the yin of infants and children, where scratching yields yellowish water and does not heal: Mix Pyrite (Wubeizi, 五倍子) and aged tea (Lachá, 腊茶) in equal proportions into a powder, adding a small amount of Calomel (Nifen, 腻粉). First, wash the area with a decoction of well-water, scallion white, and Sichuan pepper. Dry with a silk cloth, then apply the medicament.
To treat carbuncles on the yin of infants and children that surgeons cannot cure: Take one turtle shell, burn to ash, grind into powder, mix with egg white, and apply.
To treat sores on the yin of infants and children: Decoct Phellodendron amurense Bark (Huangbai, 黄柏) in water, wash the area, dry it, and apply white honey.
To treat malignant toxic sores and swellings in the groin between the yin and thighs, where pain radiates to the abdomen unbearably, potentially fatal within one night: Crush fennel leaves and stems to extract juice, administer according to age, two to three times daily. Apply the dregs to the swelling. In winter, when leaves are unavailable, use the root.
To treat swelling and sores of the yin in infants and children: Wash with a strong decoction of Agrimonia pilosa (Yelangya Cao, 野狼牙草). Use roots in winter. Alternatively, crush and apply.
To treat sudden swelling, pain, and distension of the yin in infants and children.
Vigna angularis Seed (Chixiaodou, 赤小豆) powder, half liang; Cinnamon Twig (Rougui, 肉桂) powder, one qian; Fresh Arctium lappa Root (Sheng Niubanggen, 生牛蒡根) juice, two zhan.
First, boil the Arctium lappa juice until thick. Then add the two powders and mix into a paste. Apply to the diseased area.
To treat swelling of the yin in infants and children caused by deficient heat and pain: Mix earthworm excrement with Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草) juice and apply gently.
To treat sudden swelling and sores on the glans penis of infants and children, known as "urine ash sore": Chew black soybean skins and apply. Alternatively, grind Long Earth Dragon's House Soil (Fulonggan, 伏龙肝) into powder, mix with egg white, and apply.
Another prescription: To treat sores on the glans penis: Apply licorice root decocted with honey. If sores on the glans penis are neither itchy nor painful but only ulcerated and eroded, this is called "chancre" (Xiagan Chuang, 下疳疮). (Prescription provided later).
Another prescription: To treat ulcers of the yin that become sores after scratching.
Cnidium monnieri Fruit (Shechuangzi, 蛇床子); Asarum heterotropoides Root (Xixin, 细辛); Evodia rutaecarpa Fruit (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) branches and stalks removed, each one liang.
Grind the above into powder. For each use, take one spoonful, add one large bowl of water and three stalks of scallion white. Boil for several boils. Wash the area while comfortably warm. Three to five applications are excellent.
Another prescription: To treat itching and sores of the yin. Pepper (Hujiao, 胡椒) half liang, Dendrobium officinale Stem (Zixiaohua, 紫梢花) one liang. Grind into coarse powder, decoct in water, and bathe as described above.
Another prescription: Treat as above. Slice Phellodendron amurense Bark (Huangbai, 黄柏), decoct in water, and bathe.
