The infant's face suddenly encounters weak gaps in the meridians and collaterals, where Wind-Dampness, Cold-Heat pathogens invade. These pathogens contend with Qi and Blood, generating sores. Some resemble burns, some discharge pus, some discharge yellow fluid. If prolonged, they fail to heal. The following prescriptions are narrated.
To treat facial sores resembling burns: Crush leaves of *Ficus pumila* (Chibiledi) into powder, mix with raw oil, and apply externally. *Ficus pumila* is also known as Shan Qiaomai.
Another prescription: For the above condition. Take one sheng of Foxtail millet (*Setaria italica*), grind into powder, mix with honey and water, and apply. Continue until healed.
Another prescription: To treat facial sores discharging pus. Char snake skin until blackened, grind into powder, mix with lard, and apply to stop discharge.
Another prescription: To treat facial sores discharging yellow fluid. Char crucian carp heads to ash, grind into powder, mix with sauce juice, and apply. Change once daily.
Another prescription: To treat various facial sores. Wash the affected area with a decoction of *Cuscuta chinensis* (Tusizi).
Another prescription: Char barley (*Hordeum vulgare*) retaining its medicinal properties, grind into powder, mix with raw oil and talc powder, and apply. This is miraculous. Barley need only be stir-fried until blackened and charred; this is also acceptable.
Another prescription: To treat facial sores discharging yellow fluid. Stir-fry fermented soybeans (Douchi) until dark yellow, chop Coptis Rhizome (*Huangbai*) into pieces, and grind into fine powder. Before each use, wash the sore clean with hot wood ash lye, dry it, and apply the powder. This also treats similar sores on the body.
Another prescription: To treat red, swollen, and painful facial sores. Finely chop eight liang of Sanguisorba Root (*Diyu*), add ten dou of water, boil down to five sheng, remove dregs. Wash the area when the temperature is suitable.
Wind-Toxin, Damp-Heat pathogens settle in areas of deficiency and contend with Blood and Qi, generating sores. If sores appear on the upper lip, recurring intermittently, it is called Tight Lip (Jin Chun), also known as Shen Lip. Frequent attacks cause the lips to remain swollen and thick, or covered with sores. Less severe cases result in cracked lips. If sores appear inside the lips extending to both cheeks, it is named Mouth Sores (Kou Chuang). If sores appear at the corners of the mouth, it is named Swallow Mouth (Yan Kou). Folklore attributes Yan Kou sores to looking at swallows during breastfeeding or feeding. The following prescriptions are narrated.
