The *Yangsheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) states: One must not sleep outdoors or bathe while sweating, as this may cause body chills, wind-heat, and *feng zhen* (wind rash/urticaria).
The *Yangsheng Jinji* (Taboos for Nourishing Life) states: Sleeping outdoors after getting drunk may unfortunately lead to the onset of *lai* (leprosy/severe skin disease).
It further states: Fish without gills should not be eaten; consuming them may cause *lai* to manifest in the fifth month.
The *Yangsheng Fang Daoyin Fa* (Guiding and Pulling Methods from Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) states: One should keep silent to nourish the spirit, hold the breath until the extreme limit, and exhale gently. Furthermore, one should avoid excessive talking and loud shouting, which damage the spirit. It also states: One must not weep or shed tears. Excessive spitting damages fluids and leaks essence, causing dryness in the throat and extreme thirst.
It further states: At cockcrow, click the teeth thirty-six times, then lick the lips and rinse the mouth with saliva. Press the tongue against the outer surface of the upper teeth, and swallow the saliva three times. This eliminates parasites and tonifies deficiency-lao (chronic debility), making the person strong.
It further states: Push both cheeks with both hands while keeping the hands stationary. Hug the elbows tightly towards the armpits to create tension; do the same for the inner waist. Hold the position fixed, then relax the ribs. Extend the head outward until the qi in the elbows and arms dissipates completely. Rise only when feeling extremely stifled. Perform this back and forth seven times to relieve elbow and arm fatigue.
It further states: Embrace both breasts with both hands. Strain forward and backward vigorously, shaking intensely fourteen times (two sets of seven), without moving the hands. Move the elbows up and down twenty-one times (three sets of seven). This removes internal strain in the elbows, directs heart qi downward, and ensures smooth circulation of all blood vessels throughout the body without obstruction.
It further states: Sit with heels together and toes pointing downward. Press knees against the mat and pull outward to create tension. Then slowly extend both hands into position. Perform each movement with intensity twenty-one times (three sets of seven). This relieves pain in the spine and knees caused by five labors (five types of chronic strain) and cold-induced spleen bi (obstruction syndrome).
It further states: Kneel on one foot. Curl both hands inward. Strain feet downward and pull the body outward simultaneously, focusing intent toward the heart. Perform this back and forth fourteen times (two sets of seven); repeat on the other side. This relieves dorsal foot pain from five labors and cold/cold-yin conditions in the knees.
It further states: Sit and embrace the lower part of both knees, two cun below the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint. Hug tightly toward the body to the extreme limit. Lift both feet away from the body, maintaining a posture similar to sitting on a folding stool, then return to sitting. Perform this up and down fourteen times (two sets of seven). This relieves internal deficiency-lao in the waist, feet, and arms, and coldness of the bladder.
It further states: Rotate both feet outward ten times. Intentionally move the knee joints to create a鼓 (drumming/pulsating) sensation in the bones. Pull outward ten times; this is not rotation.
It further states: Bring both feet together facing the genital area. Contract forcefully, holding both hands to cup the knees. Press outward to the extreme limit fourteen times (two sets of seven). Finally, take positions toward both sides of the body fourteen times (two sets of seven). Thrust the waist forward and backward seven times. This relieves heart-lao and hemorrhoids, and harmonizes cold knees. If the damage is not fully resolved and speech is necessary, but one dislikes gingival swelling, hold the knees with both hands. Strain the knees outward. Use two extreme postures for the hands, body, and knees, pulling twenty-one times (three sets of seven); repeat on the other side. Tilt the head left and right to stretch. This relieves back stiffness and arm fatigue.

Strain the knees outward. Use two extreme postures for the hands, body, and knees, pulling twenty-one times (three sets of seven); repeat on the other side. Tilt the head left and right to stretch. To join the soles of the feet, contract the feet to the extreme limit. Extend both hands long, palms facing the back of the head and neck. Simultaneously, draw the arms toward the head and shoulders. Move hands toward the mat back and forth seven times. Raise hands seven times. Join hands seven times. Finally, exert extreme force at the corners of the hands, keep the waist straight and feet still. This relieves five labors and seven injuries, and harmonizes cold and heat in the lower body. Frequent use maintains harmony and balance.
It further states: Place one foot flat on the ground, bend the other knee. Hold both hands below the Dubi (ST35) acupoint. Twist the body back to the extreme limit. Switch sides eight times (four sets of seven). This relieves five labors and prevents qi stagnation below Zusanli (ST36).
It further states: Lie curved like a snake, then straighten the body and rise into a squatting position. Close the eyes and follow the qi. Regulate breathing and reduce food intake. Rely solely on intestinal cleansing and qi swallowing for sustenance, using saliva as liquid. Follow the principle of emerging in spring and storing in winter. Do not waste energy nor over-nourish. This treats five labors and seven injuries.
It further states: Move qi like a frog. Straighten the body and shake both arms. Regulate breathing twelve times. This treats five labors, seven injuries, and edema.
It further states: Rotate both feet outward ten rounds to guide away various labors of the heart and abdomen. Rotate both feet inward ten rounds each. Guide away heart diseases, stopping after five breaths. This removes all kinds of labor-related diseases and rashes from the body.
