According to *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) regarding infantile wind-stroke with trismus: When infants suffer from wind-stroke manifesting as trismus, it is because wind pathogen has invaded the tendons of the mandible and cheek. The tendons of the three Yang meridians of the hand converge and knot at the mandible and cheek, while the tendon of the Foot-Yangming Meridian ascends to flank the mouth. If the skin and interstices are deficient and vulnerable, cold-wind pathogen invades and lodges in the tendons of the various Yang meridians. The tendons contract and spasm due to the cold, leading to dysfunction of the joint mechanisms and resulting in trismus (lockjaw).
The song in *Yingtong Baojian* (Precious Mirror for Infants and Children) regarding infantile facial paralysis and trismus:
The three Yang meridians connect to the mouth and cheeks; wind attacking the mouth inevitably causes facial deviation. If wind strikes the tendons, it leads to tightness and inability to open the mouth.
