According to the *Shenghui Fang* (Sanitary Formulas of the Taiping Era): The so-called pediatric internal gan syndrome (a chronic wasting disease in children characterized by malnutrition and digestive disorders) is caused by irregular breastfeeding and feeding, which damages the zang-fu organs. Its manifestations include indigestion of milk and food, empty distension of the heart and abdomen, dryness and itching of the eyes, body heat with withered skin, dysregulation of the intestines and stomach, passage of dysentery with five colors, gradual emaciation, intestinal parasites eating away at the intestines, deepening of the condition over days and months, and persistent dysentery; hence it is called internal gan syndrome.
The *Shenghui Fang* treats pediatric internal gan syndrome with symptoms of irregular digestion, abdominal distension, emaciated skin and flesh, and irregular dysentery. Mu Xiang Wan (Musk Root Pill) Formula:
Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Chan Qiao (Cicadae Periostracum, slightly fried, feet removed), She Xiang (Moschus, finely ground), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, mustards removed), Huang Dan (Minium, slightly fried), Xiong Dan (Ursi Bile, ground into powder), Ye Ming Sha (Pharisiis Semen, slightly fried), Gan Chan (dried cicada, coated with butter and roasted until slightly scorched; each of the above one fen), Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysit Rubrum, half liang), Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen, one kernel, shell removed), Tian Fu (likely a typo for Tian Hua Fen or similar, but kept as Tian Fu / Trichosanthis Radix contextually implied or local herb, half liang, roasted until slightly yellow).
Crush the above herbs, sieve them into powder. Soak steamed wheat cake in water, mix with the powder to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Administer two pills per dose with warm porridge water. Adjust dosage according to the child's age and size.
The *Shenghui Fang* treats pediatric internal gan syndrome with symptoms of emaciated limbs, abdominal distension with nasal itching, dry skin, and irregular dysentery. Lu Hui Wan (Aloe Pill) Formula:

Crush the above herbs, sieve them into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of millet grains. Administer three pills per dose with porridge water, three times daily. Grind one pill separately and insufflate it into the nose. Adjust dosage according to the child's age and size. (The *Shenghui Fang* also records treatments for gan-dysentery.)
The *Shenghui Fang* treats pediatric internal gan syndrome with symptoms of persistent dysentery, emaciation, poor appetite, abdominal pain, and weakness. Sha Gan Wan (Kill Gan Pill) Formula:
Xiong Huang (Realgar), Mi Duo Seng (Lithargyrum), She Xiang (Moschus), Lu Hui (Aloes; each finely ground), Wo Niu Ke (Helicis Shell), Mu Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), He Shi (Hedysari Semen), Bai Fan (Alumen, ash), Mo Yao (Myrrha), Di Long (Pheretima, slightly fried), Xiong Dan (Ursi Bile, ground into powder; each one fen), Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen, shell removed), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, mustards removed, slightly fried), Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium, roasted until yellow), Ding Fen (Cerussa, slightly fried; each half liang), Chan Su (Toad Venom, one qian, ground into powder).

The *Shenghui Fang* treats pediatric internal gan syndrome with symptoms of persistent dysentery, emaciation, and failure of other treatments. It is suitable to take She Xiang San (Musk Powder):
She Xiang (Moschus), Lu Hui (Aloes; each finely ground), She Tui Pi (Bombyx Batryticatus ash), Ye Ming Sha (Pharisiis Semen, slightly fried), Wo Niu Ke (Helicis Shell), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, mustards removed, slightly fried), Mo Shi Zi (Terminalia Chebula Retz. fruit; each one fen), Huang Dan Ding Fen (Minium and Cerussa, each slightly fried, one liang), He Li Le (Terminalia Chebula Retz., half liang, baked, using only the peel).

Another formula from the *Shenghui Fang*:
Ding Xiang (Clove, powdered), Niu Huang (Bovis Calculus), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, powdered, finely ground), Xiong Huang (Realgar; each one fen), Chan Su (Toad Venom, half fen).
Grind the above herbs together until fine. Mix with pig bile juice to form pills the size of broomcorn millet grains. Administer five pills with mint decoction at any time. Adjust dosage according to the child's age and size.
The *Tan Shi Shu Sheng Fang* states: Pediatric organ diseases are the hardest to diagnose; seeking causes often requires returning to the root. Few understand internal gan syndrome; they merely hear of hitting tiles and locking turtles (metaphors for obscure practices). Without seeking soap pods, beans, and cloves, how could one believe there are miraculous doctors in the world?
Bao Ming Dan (Precious Life Pill):
Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Fructus, one liang, roasted until charred black, peel removed, powdered, take three fen), Ba Dou (Crotonis Semen, twenty-seven kernels, remove heart membrane, grind finely, remove oil on new tile), Xiong Que Er Fen (Male Sparrow Droppings, two qian).
