According to the *Shenghui Fang* (Prescriptions from the Imperial Medical Bureau): The spleen meridians connect to the tongue, and the tongue is the external manifestation of the heart. If the viscera are obstructed and stagnant, with accumulated heat in the heart and spleen, pathogenic heat qi ascends along the meridians to the root of the tongue, causing the tongue to swell and gradually become coarse and enlarged. If not treated early, the swollen tongue fills the mouth, hence it is called "Wood Tongue" (Mu She). This condition is particularly common in infants and children.
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: The manifestation of Wood Tongue in children is the gradual enlargement of the tongue. If the tongue becomes so large as to fill the entire mouth, it may cause suffocation and death.
The *Xianren Shuijian* (Immortal's Water Mirror) records a prescription for treating Wood Tongue in infants within their first hundred days.
For Wood Tongue, one may wait for Huangkui (here referring to Minium/Huangdan), combine it with Qianya (also Minium), apply it seven times for immediate effect; this divine prescription does not require long preparation periods for multiple herbs.
