Zhang Huan's Sanxiang Dan (Three Fragrances Pill) formula is used to treat persistent vomiting caused by fright.
Huoxiang Ye (Agastache Leaf), Dingxiang (Clove) (each 1 liang); Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome) (washed seven times with decoction, dried by roasting, 0.5 liang).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted into powder, then added with: Nifen (Calomel), Longnao (Borneol), Shexiang (Musk) (Dangmenzi variety, each 1 qian).
These components are mixed uniformly. Ginger juice is extracted and used to make a paste from white flour, which is then combined with the medicinal powder to form pills the size of millet seeds. Each dose consists of ten pills, taken with Ginseng and Mint Decoction. The dosage should be adjusted according to the child's age and size.
From *Tan Shi Shu Sheng*: When infants suffer from fright-induced phrenic discomfort with frequent vomiting, continuing day and night without pause, expelling green water, locust-yellow fluid, and starch-like sediment, or even spitting out parasites and undigested milk and food together, one should take finely ground Dingxiang (Clove) and raw Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn), combined with Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) from five gallbladders. This brings immediate merit. If such medicine is encountered, it can restore life even in critical conditions.
Guiming Dan (Life-Returning Pill)
Ingredients: Dingxiang (Clove), Huoxiang (Agastache) (each 1 fen); Shengxi (Raw Rhinoceros Horn, powdered), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) (each 0.5 fen); Zhu Dan (Pig Gallbladder), Ji Dan (Crucian Carp Gallbladder), Gou Dan (Dog Gallbladder), Xiong Dan (Bear Gallbladder), Yu Dan (Fish Gallbladder) (equal parts, or more is acceptable, ground together to half a liang).
Grind the above into fine powder and form pills the size of mung beans. Adjust dosage based on the child's age: for children under one year old, decoct Kuchuan Tang (Melia Decoction), grind two pills, and administer.
*Tan Shi Shu Sheng* also treats infantile fright-food stagnation causing gastric discomfort, regurgitation of milk/food, or heat sensation in the chest and heart. Dingtu Wan (Anti-Vomiting Pill):
Dingxiang (Clove) (21 pieces, powdered); Xieshao (Scorpion Tail) (49 pieces); Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome) (3 pieces, washed, dried by roasting, powdered).
Grind these evenly, mix with cooked jujube flesh, and form pills the size of small millet seeds. Take 7 to 10 pills per dose, swallowed with Yinchen Decoction (Silver Flower Decoction). For summerheat injury causing cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea, administer with Xiangrong San (Fragant Antler Powder) decoction; this yields miraculous effects.
*Liang Fang* treats chronic fanwei (reverted stomach) and infantile fright vomiting, applicable to various types of vomiting. Tianji San (Tian Ji Powder):
Shanghao Liuhuang (High-quality Sulfur) (finely ground, 0.5 liang); Shuiyin (Mercury) (ground again with sulfur until no starry particles remain, 1 fen).
Grind them together until they resemble black coal dust. Take 3 qian per dose. Extract juice from 4 liang of fresh ginger, add one zhan of wine, boil with the ginger juice, mix thoroughly with the medicine when cooked, and take on an empty stomach. Cover the body with clothing and blankets; sweat will emerge from between the toes, spreading gradually over the whole body. Once sweating is thorough, the disease resolves. There was once a patient suffering from reverted stomach, vomiting immediately after eating, with attacks occurring every afternoon, lasting three years without cure. Imperial physicians like Sun Zhao tried numerous treatments without success. The patient became emaciated, withered, blackened, and skeletal. A guard named Ji吉 saw him and said, "This is easy to treat." He claimed one dose would suffice. Initially, no one believed him. One day, he was asked to prepare the medicine, given some money to buy ingredients, and returned the next day with the prepared powder. Taking only one dose as directed, the patient expelled foul-smelling, glue-like substances. Vomiting ceased that very day. Subsequently, Dr. Tian from Chu, skilled in treating pediatric vomiting, also used this powder. Dosage ranged from 1 qian to 1 zi depending on the child's height, mixed with cold water and administered, stopping vomiting immediately. This powder is extremely light and difficult to mix; one must first add a few drops of water and grind slowly with fingers to reduce its buoyancy. Then gradually increase the liquid to achieve proper consistency. If soup or wine is added directly, the medicine will float and cannot be taken.
Wangshi Shouji's Shuijing Wan (Sleep-Calming Fright Pill) treats heat transforming into phlegm-fluid, calms the heart spirit, and addresses fright palpitations and vomiting.
Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome, powdered, processed), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn, powdered) (each 1 qian).
Grind these together into powder. Use natural ginger juice to cook a flour paste, forming pills the size of mung beans. Take 7 to 10 pills per dose, administered with mint water before sleep at night.
