[Song Dynasty] Qin Chengzu's Prescription: For treating sores and rashes in the stage of emerging or about to emerge, where symptoms present as body heat similar to Shanghan (Cold Damage Syndrome), but with only the ear tips and feet slightly cold, or accompanied by abdominal pain, this indicates sores and rashes.
Take 21 cicada sloughs (Chan Tui), wash away the mud, and grind into powder. Use one cup (approx. 200ml) of water, simmer slowly until reduced to seven-tenths (approx. 140ml), filter out the dregs, and administer warm according to the child's age and size. If it is felt that the sores and rashes have emerged, continue to take three to five more doses according to the previous method. If taken cold, it will leave scar marks. If it is not a symptom of sores and rashes, accidental ingestion causes no harm.
[Jin Dynasty] Zhongshu Ling Wang (Name Unknown): For treating Pea Sores (Smallpox/Chickenpox-like diseases) caused by heat toxins from Shanghan and seasonal qi.
Take birch bark, cut into pieces, decoct in water, and take warm to achieve relief.
*Qianjin Fang*: Method for treating erupting Pea Sores.
Use menstrual blood from a young girl, mix with water, and bathe the child in it. [Note: Ancient superstitious practice; strictly prohibited in modern medicine.]
*Xianren Shuijian*: Method for treating Pea Sores.
Dried Qianxi (Dry Lacquer), Renzhongbai (Human excrement ash), Weisonghui (Tail pine ash) (each a small amount), Yaxiao (Saltpeter) (one fen).
Grind all ingredients together into a fine powder. On an empty stomach, mix half a qian (approx. 1.5-3g) with cold rice water and ingest. The limit is vomiting; if not fully vomited, take another qian. After two or three bowel movements, the sores will naturally disappear. Effectively miraculous.
*Xianren Shuijian* records: When children suffer from Pea Sores and other doctors fail to cure them, taking this prescription yields miraculous results.
Tianma (Gastrodia Rhizome), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each one cun), Fahui (Hair Ash), Huangdan (Lead Oxide) (calcined, each one fen), Mayaxiao (Horse Saltpeter) (three fen), Wuse Dou (Five-colored Beans) (each seven grains), Huangyan (Yellow Salt) (one fen. Tao Hongjing states: Northern Sea Yellow Salt has coarse grass-like grains, used for pickling fish and vegetables).
Pound the above eleven ingredients into a powder. On an empty stomach, take one qian, mix with cold water, and ingest. Diarrhea follows, and the sore lesions heal.
*Zimu Milu*: For treating infantile macular sores and Pea Sores.
Take hair ash, swallow with drinking water, three qianbi (approx. 3-5g).
*Yaoxing Lun*: Method to remove Pea Sores from children.
Consume rabbit meat made into paste during the twelfth lunar month (La Yue).
*Yaoxing Lun* Another Prescription:
Decoct rabbit fur from the twelfth lunar month in water, wash the Pea Sore lesions with the soup, and apply the fur to the affected area. Very effective.
*Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang*: For treating infants after rash/pox eruption, presenting with cough, reverse qi, hypochondriac pain, and inability to eat. Chi Fu Ling San Formula:
Chi Fu Ling (Red Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root) (honey-fried to light red, sliced), Da Qing (Isatis Leaf), Chuan Shengma (Bupleurum Root), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) (bran-fried to light yellow, pith removed, each half liang), Zhizi Ren (Gardenia Seed) (one fen).
Pound the above medicines, sift coarsely into powder. Take one qian per dose, add one small cup of water, seventeen leaves of Ku Zhu Ye (Bitter Bamboo Leaf), and thirty grains of Chi (Fermented Soybean), decoct until reduced to five-tenths (approx. 100ml), filter dregs. Divide into three doses, administer three to four times daily. Adjust according to the child's age and size.
*Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang*: For treating infantile rash/pox and red sores. Xi Jiao San Formula:
Xi Jiao (Rhinoceros Horn - *Note: Substitute with Buffalo Horn in modern practice*), Chuan Da Huang (Rhubarb Root) (sliced, lightly fried), Sang Gen Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark) (sliced), Gouteng (Uncaria Rhynchophylla), Gancao (Licorice Root) (honey-fried to light red, sliced), Mahuang (Ephedra Herb) (roots and joints removed, each one fen), Longdan (Gentiana Root) (rhizome removed, half fen), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Gualou Rang (Trichosanthes Peel), Huangqi (Astragalus Root) (sliced, each half liang).
Pound the above medicines, sift coarsely into powder. Take one qian per dose, add one medium cup of water, decoct until reduced to three-tenths (approx. 60ml), filter dregs, divide into three warm doses. Adjust dosage based on the child's age and size. After sores recede, applying thickly ground Xi Jiao water to the lesions is even better. Qian Yi's supplementary formula treats excessive sores/rashes preventing eye involvement, named Tiao Gan San (Liver Regulating Powder).
*Bo Ji Fang*: For treating sores/rashes about to emerge but not yet evenly distributed, aiming to vent muscles and detoxify. Bi Sheng San (Victory Powder):
Take Niubang Zi (Arctium Fruit) in any quantity, stir-fry until cooked, pound into fine powder. Take one qian per dose, add two sprigs of Jingjie (Schizonepeta Herb), one cup of water, decoct together until reduced to seven-tenths, cool to warm temperature, and administer. If sores/rashes have already emerged, continuing to take it is also excellent. (*Zhen Dou Lun*'s Bi Sheng San is identical.)
*Ling Yuan Fang*: For treating epidemic Pea Sores, red sores, and rashes. For those not yet erupted, cause internal resolution; for those erupted, resolve toxic vapors to prevent severity. Dai Mao Tang Formula:
Sheng Dai Mao (Acanthoscyllium Carapax), Sheng Xi (Rhino Horn - *Substitute Buffalo Horn*) (each grind in cold water to obtain two he of concentrated juice).
Mix thoroughly. Take half a he per dose, drink warm. Four to five times daily is best.
*Yang Sheng Bi Yong Fang*: Infantile sores/rashes initially resemble Shanghan, with headache, aversion to cold, and high fever. In cases of doubt, first administer Jie Ji Tang (Muscle-Releasing Decoction). Suitable whether erupted or not. Also known as Shengma Tang:
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Baishao Yao (White Peony Root), Gan Ge (Kudzu Root), Gancao (Licorice Root) (honey-fried, equal parts).
Make into powder. Take two qian per dose, one cup of water, decoct to seven-tenths, filter dregs, drink warm. Three times daily; if severe, take through the night. Poor families can use the decoction to wash eyes in emergencies. Drink warm for restlessness and internal heat; drink hot for excess cold. (*Bi Yong Fang*, *Zhen Dou Lun*, *Huo Ren Shu*, *Quan Sheng Zhi Mi Lun*, Dong Ji's formula are all the same.)

Mr. Mao: Infantile Measles/Pox Formula:
Take a small amount of Jingjie (Schizonepeta Herb), mash well. Use fresh well water, filter through torn cloth, add a drop of Sesame Oil, mix well, and let the child drink. This prevents restlessness and suffocation. Once measles/pox have emerged, melt Huang La (Beeswax) with Qing Jiao (Green Glue/Cowhide Glue), drink for peace. (Qing Jiao is Cowhide Glue.)
