According to the *Shenghui Fang* (Prescriptions from the Holy Healer): In cases where pediatric gan-lin (dysentery caused by gan syndrome) persists for a long time without healing, it is due to the internal organs harboring pre-existing gan qi (pathogenic factors associated with malnutrition and parasitic infection), or irregular intake of milk and food, leading to a disharmony of cold and heat. Once the intestines and stomach are deficient, this results in dysentery that fails to resolve, dragging on for days and months; hence it is named chronic gan-lin.
