*Chao Shi Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases by Chao) discusses the prognosis for recurrence after convulsions in children have subsided: The manifestations of a convulsive fit include, in some cases, deviation of the mouth and eyes with upward rolling of the eyeballs; in others, spasms of the hands and feet; rigidity of the back and spine; retrocollis (head and neck bent backward); or flexion and extension of fingers as if counting. All these conditions are caused by exposure to wind and cold during illness, and irregularities in breastfeeding and feeding. When symptoms recur after a period of remission, it is because the residual pathogenic factors have not been fully cleared. Due to the weakness of blood and qi in infants and young children, recurrence may be triggered by dietary indiscretion, imbalance from wind and cold, or renewed fright and agitation. Such cases often develop into chronic, stubborn diseases. During an active convulsive episode, when the limbs undergo clonic jerking and contraction, one must strictly avoid forcibly restraining the child. Forcible restraint can cause deformities and loss of voluntary movement.
*Ying Tong Bao Jian* (Precious Mirror for Infants and Children) states that recurrence after the subsidence of convulsions occurs due to lingering heat, dietary irregularities, and subsequent exposure to wind and cold.
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) prescribes **Yinyu Wan** (Inyu Pill) for treating pediatric wind-convulsion that persists into adulthood without resolution, or which is triggered by cloudy weather and seasonal changes, or by consuming hard-to-digest foods. It is indicated for patients with spasms of all meridians, unsteady gait, and speech difficulties; regular use prevents further attacks.
