According to *Chao Shi Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases by Chao Yuanfang) regarding the syndrome of pediatric white alopecia (Bai Tu): The manifestation of white alopecia involves white spots on the scalp that peel off in patches. Initially resembling tinea (Xuan) but with white scales on the surface, over time it forms scabs and evolves into sores, eventually spreading across the entire head.
After washing and scraping off the scabs, the pores of the scalp sores are as large as a chopstick tip, with pus oozing out internally. There is no pain, only occasional slight itching, indicating the presence of parasites inside, which are extremely minute and difficult to see. *Jiu Chong Lun* (Treatise on Nine Parasites) also states: This sore is caused by the activity of pinworms (Ruichong). It may persist from childhood to adulthood without healing, leading to hair loss, hence the name "white alopecia."
*Tang Bencao Zhu* (Commentary on Tang Materia Medica) records a prescription for pediatric white alopecia sores:
Take equal parts of grass from chicken coops and flowers of *Pulsatilla chinensis* (Baitouweng). Burn them to ash, mix with lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month (Layue), and apply. Prior to application, wash the area with acidic rice-washing water.
