*Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats the condition of foreign bodies in the eye that cannot be expelled.
Take one grain of silkworm sand (Can Sha), swallow it, and the foreign body will be expelled immediately.
*Qianjin Yi Fang* (Supplement to Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats the condition of eyes obscured by foreign bodies with blurred vision.
Pound sheep tendons until they are coarse and split them. Process the tendon as described for tendon preparation, place it in the mouth, and chew thoroughly. Remove the softened tendon and place it on the eyelid near the pupil. Gently press the eyelid with your hand. If there is a sensation of a foreign body, after fourteen repetitions of pressing, it will be expelled. Observe whether the foreign body comes out with the tendon; stop if it does, and repeat if it does not. This method should preferably be performed at dawn before sunrise, continuing until recovery. After expulsion, instill good honey into the corners of the eyes; carp bile is also effective. If eye pain occurs frequently, use this method every other day.
*Shenghui Fang* (Holy Healing Formulas) Moxibustion method: For children with dry, photophobic eyes resembling Qing Mang syndrome (blindness with clear cornea), moxibustion is applied to Zhongzhu (TE17). Two sessions per acupoint. The acupoint is located in the depression proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joint between the fourth and fifth fingers. The moxa cone should be the size of a wheat kernel.
*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Source Book of Diseases and Syndromes) Syndrome of Pediatric Deafness: Pediatric deafness is caused by wind pathogen invading the head. The Hand-Taiyang meridian enters the ear. When wind resides in the head, the wind pathogen follows the Qi mechanism, invades the meridians, and contends with healthy Qi. Accumulation of wind pathogen leads to deafness.
*Yingtong Baojian* (Precious Mirror for Infants and Children) Song on Pediatric Deafness, Tinnitus, and Ear Pain:
Wind entering the ear damages hearing; Qi stagnation often causes deafness. Tinnitus results from the interaction of wind and Qi. Pain indicates wind pathogen at Naohu (GV19). Kidney heat steaming upward causes ear disorders; over time, pain intensifies and thick pus discharges. Absence of thick pus rules out this condition; it is merely due to water entering the ear.
*Qianjin Fang* treats deafness caused by impacted cerumen (earwax) that cannot be removed.
Crush naturally deceased white-necked earthworms, place them inside scallion leaves, seal the head with paper, and steam until cooked and liquefied. Instill the juice into the ear until full, then stop. Within a few applications, the cerumen can be picked out. After recovery, wrap salt in hair and insert it into the ear. (*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* notes this is effective for snakes or insects entering the ear. Simply place an earthworm and a pinch of salt in a scallion tube; within moments, it liquefies.)
*Qianjin Fang*, Another Prescription
Instill vinegar; aged vinegar is best. Plug the ear with cotton wool. Within half a day, foreign matter will likely emerge.
*Qianjin Yi Fang* treats deafness.
Raw Rehmannia Root (Sheng Dihuang) (very large, 1.5 cun long), Almond (Xingren) (burnt until black), Croton Seed (Baidu) (peeled, fried until purple, seven seeds each), Seal Salt (Yin Cheng Yan) (two pieces), Human Hair (size of a chicken egg, roasted).
Pound these five ingredients into powder. Wrap in thin hair mesh and insert into the ear for one day and night. If slight discomfort occurs, press gently. Plugging the ear directly with hair allows yellow fluid and pus to drain gradually, showing effect; no further application is needed. If not expelled, leave for another day and night after one night's rest, then remove the medicine and follow the previous method entirely.
*Qianjin Yi Fang*, Another Prescription
Sulfur (Liu Huang), Orpiment (Ci Huang) (or Realgar/Xiong Huang).

For abdominal disease, mix with wine and take a date-sized amount. For sore throat, swallow one date-seed-sized piece.
*Qianjin Yi Fang* treats chronic deafness.
Rendered Chicken Fat (Cheng Jian Jifang) (five liang), Cinnamon Twig Heart (Guixin), Wild Kadsura Stem (Yege) (two liang each).
Cut the two ingredients. Simmer gently in copper vessel with fat for three boils. Strain and store tightly sealed. Load reed tube with amount the size of a date seed. Heat over fire. Tilt head and instill into ear. Do this for ten days; cerumen will self-expel, appearing finger-thick and one cun long. Chronic deafness resolves within thirty days. Wrap ointment in hair, insert deeply, prevent air leakage, and remove after five days.
