The Niuhuang San (Coral Powder) from *Jubao Fang* is a prescription for infants from birth to two or three years old, treating all conditions caused by wind pathogen manifesting as Chi Bai Liu (red and white skin eruptions), wandering pruritus (itching), and limb discomfort.
Ingredients include: Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Wo Rou (Musculus Mantidis), Gan Xie (Scorpio dried), Bai Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus dried), Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Ru Xiang (Olibanum), She Xiang (Moschus) (each 1 fen), Sheng Long Nao (Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 qian), Tang Lang Chi (Alae Mantis, 5 pairs, collected in the seventh lunar month).
The above eleven ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Each dose is "yi zi" (a traditional small weight measure), taken with mint water decoction. For newborns, after bathing, a small amount of breast milk is used to mix and apply the powder to the mouth, permanently eliminating congenital diseases.
In *Chao Shi Bing Yuan*, the condition of sudden cyanosis and blackening of the abdominal skin in children is described as follows: When children sweat, their cou li (pores and interstitial spaces) open, allowing wind-cold pathogens to invade. Cold combats with blood, stopping at areas where muscles are deficient, causing blood qi to become stagnant and sluggish, unable to nourish the skin. When wind-cold combats the abdominal skin, it turns cyan and black.
According to *Ying Tong Bao Jian*: Blood coagulation in children occurs because their flesh has not yet fully formed at birth. If wrapped in new cotton and thick clothes, the blood is heated but fails to transform into muscle tissue, leading to coagulation. The symptoms include dark cyan discoloration of the body, crying without sound, and refusal to nurse.
*Qian Jin Fang* provides a prescription for treating sudden cyanosis and blackening of the abdominal skin in children.
