Chao Shi Bing Yuan (Source of Diseases by Chao Yuanfang), Pediatric Metal Wounds Section: When a child is injured by metal blades, it is called a "Jin Chuang" (Metal Wound). If the injury affects the meridians and collaterals, blood may flow incessantly, leading to fainting or stupor; if the vital acupoints (Shu points) and front-mu points of the zang-fu organs are damaged, it is also difficult to treat. Other conditions such as abdominal rupture with evisceration, shattered head with exposed brain matter, are also difficult to cure. Injuries limited to the muscles, being superficial, result in sores but are generally not fatal; however, if a Jin Chuang is exposed to wind pathogen, it may transform into Jing disease (spasm/convulsion).

Using Duan Shi (Smelted Iron Ore Powder) to stop bleeding is highly effective. If collected on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, Fructus Trichosanthis (Fanlou), Foliium Puerariae (Ge Ye), Herba Nikotianae (Luhuo Cao), Folium Quercus variabilis (Hu Ye), Radix Paeoniae Rubra (Shaoyao), Folium Rehmanniae (Dihuang Ye), Fructus Xanthii (Canger), and Herba Artemisiae Annuae (Qinghao) are pounded together with Duan Shi into balls the size of chicken eggs, dried in the sun, and powdered.
