To treat pterygium (growth of fleshy tissue over the cornea), red vessels penetrating the pupil, white membrane obscuring the vision, and various types of corneal opacity (cloudy film), use Bai Dingxiang (White Sparrow Droppings). Inverted droppings are from female sparrows and should not be used; select upright droppings from male sparrows. The quantity is unrestricted. Grind into powder, process by water flotation until fine like vermilion powder, and discard the residue. Allow the medicine to settle, pour off the clear water, and dry. Take a tiny amount, grind with milk until dissolved, and apply to the opacity. The opacity will resolve spontaneously. This is a miraculous formula.
Source of sparrow droppings: Found in temples and on city walls.
For red, swollen, and painful eyes, take a pinch of Puxiao (Mirabilite), place a piece of tofu in a bowl, put the salt on the tofu, and steam it over rice. Once the salt has melted, remove the tofu and do not use it; take the juice to instill into the eyes for self-healing.
For applying treatment to fire-eye and wind-heat eye conditions: Take 5 qian of Sheng Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) and 5 qian of Hong Fan Dou (Vigna angularis var. nipponensis), grind together into powder. Mix with fresh ginger juice to form two cakes, and apply to both temples. Additionally, for severe pain in fire-eye: Take the flesh of 5-6 large red dates and 3-4 scallions, pound into a paste, form two small cakes, and apply while keeping the eyes closed to promote dispersion. Since eye pain without wind-cold invasion is unlikely, this method disperses the pathogen and yields immediate results. Ignorant practitioners believe fire-eye must be treated with cooling applications using herbs like Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) or Huangbai (Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex); however, this suppresses and traps the fire pathogen, preventing its exit, leading to persistent eye pain and delayed healing. Exercise caution!
To treat blepharitis (rotting eyelid margins) refractory to other treatments, this formula is most effective. Take 3 qian of fresh Tonglv (Malachite Green), grind into fine powder. Mix thickly with raw honey and coat the inside of a coarse bowl; the mixture should be slightly dry, otherwise it will flow out quickly. Burn mugwort to produce smoke, cover the bowl with the smoke, and fumigate until the malachite turns scorched black. Remove, cool, mix evenly with milk, steam over rice, and apply to the rotting margin of the eyelid. Success rate is nearly 100%.
To treat trichiasis (in-turned eyelashes), make Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) into a fine powder, mix with honey, and apply to the eyelid; the lashes will straighten naturally.
Another prescription: Make Wumingyi (Haematites) into powder, roll paper into a wick, light a lamp, extinguish it, and fumigate the closed eyes; the lashes will straighten naturally.
For persistent red, swollen, and painful eyes, take a slice of lean pork, size of a fingernail, wash away the blood with water, and apply to the eyelid. After some time, replace with another slice; the swelling and pain will subside.
