The mouth contracts like the opening of a bag, making breastfeeding difficult; the tongue is stiff, lips are cyanotic, and frothy phlegm is expectorated. A red-yellow complexion indicates extreme fetal heat, while cold limbs signal a critical condition with little hope for survival. If phlegm is excessive, Jiangcan San (Silkworm Powder) is appropriate; if constipation occurs, Zishuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill) must be administered; for fright-heat, Longdan Tang (Gentian Decoction) is highly effective; for convulsions, Cufeng San (Wind-Grasping Powder) brings peace.
[Note] "Cufeng" refers to the contraction of the mouth like a bag's opening. Inability to breastfeed, stiff tongue, cyanotic lips, and yellow-red complexion indicate heat in the Heart and Spleen, inherited from the fetus. This syndrome is a critical sign, requiring urgent treatment based on specific symptoms. For cases with Qi rebellion and abundant phlegm, Chensha Jiangcan San (Cinnabar and Silkworm Powder) is the primary formula; for urinary and fecal obstruction, Zishuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill) is used; for body heat and frequent fright, Longdan Tang (Gentian Decoction) is indicated; for limb convulsions, Cufeng San (Wind-Grasping Powder) is applied. If white foam is vomited and limbs become cold, even divine medicines will ultimately be ineffective.

If bathing the infant is careless and water soaks the umbilicus, or due to wetness from swaddling clothes, the umbilical area drips continuously with pain and itching. Severe cases result in swelling and ulceration. Umbilical dampness (Qi Shi) requires Shenqi San (Umbilical Oozing Powder); umbilical sores and swelling are best treated with Jinhuang San (Golden Yellow Powder). Treatment methods must follow this principle; clinical application should not be doubted.
[Note] After birth, infants should not remain in water for long periods during bathing. After wrapping, care must be taken to prevent urine from soaking the umbilicus. Negligence leads to the umbilicus remaining wet and macerated, termed "Umbilical Dampness" (Qi Shi), which should be treated with Shenqi San (Umbilical Oozing Powder) externally. If it worsens into redness and sores, termed "Umbilical Ulcer" (Qi Chuang), Jinhuang San (Golden Yellow Powder) should be applied to prevent the invasion of Cold-Dampness pathogens into the interior.
Shenqi San (Umbilical Oozing Powder)
Kufan (Alumen, calcined) Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae, calcined, each 2 qian) Shexiang (Moschus, a small amount)
