The head is the convergence point of all Yang meridians and the general assembly of the nervous system. Whenever a child has full and prominent forehead and temples, it indicates sufficient brain marrow (Nao Sui). The back is the central pivot of the five Zang organs and six Fu organs; the connections of the five Zang organs are all attached to the back. If the muscles of the spine and back are plump, it signifies that the Zang and Fu organs are robust. The abdomen is the sea of water and grain (dietary intake); if the abdominal muscles are broad and thick, it indicates strong intestines and stomach. The eyes are the orifices of the Liver, the ears are the orifices of the Kidney, the nose is the orifice of the Lung, and the mouth is the orifice of the Spleen. If the seven orifices are intact without defects, a sound physical image is formed. Therefore, based on these sound physical images, one can deduce: those with solid flesh must have sufficient Spleen Qi; those with strong sinews must have sufficient Liver Qi; those with firm bones must have sufficient Kidney Qi; those who speak and laugh frequently must have sufficient Heart Qi; those who do not cry much must have sufficient Lung Qi. Continuous crying indicates excess heat in the Lung; short sleep duration indicates Spleen heat combined with food stagnation presenting as an Excess syndrome. Strong and sturdy legs, a long and fleshy neck, and a small, dark scrotum indicate a solid fundamental constitution. Warm, moist, and lustrous muscles indicate harmonious Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi. Ruddy and clear cheeks and forehead, with hair black as lacquer, indicate solid exterior Qi. Clear and profuse urination, and moist stool, indicate solid interior Qi. All the aforementioned physical images are signs of longevity; such children are free from disease and are particularly easy to nurture. Conversely, if any of the following symptoms and images appear, the child will find it difficult to grow up properly. For instance, if a child inherits syphilis, gonorrhea, or other warm-heat viral pathogens from parents while in the fetal stage, although these may not manifest externally immediately, the fetal toxins cannot remain hidden within the tender body for long and will eventually manifest externally, causing damp sores on the head, face, and limbs, and preventing the body image from being perfect. Cases of enlarged skull, unclosed fontanelles, and a weak neck indicate that toxic vapors are steaming upward due to insufficient Yang Qi in the upper part. Since all Yin meridians originate from the lower part, small and thin feet indicate deficiency of Yin Qi in the lower part. Dry nostrils indicate empty and withered Lung lobes; retracted lips with drooling indicate Spleen weakness failing to control fluids. Sparse, yellow, and scorched hair indicates anemia. Eyes lacking clarity and luster, along with yellow, foul-smelling discharge from the ears, indicate Kidney deficiency complicated by dampness, with toxins accumulating internally causing swelling. Blue-purple veins scattered on the face often indicate Wind-Heat pathogen. Combined with emaciation, ash-white or dull complexion, this indicates exterior deficiency. Unpredictable diarrhea with frequent vomiting indicates interior deficiency. Sores, scabies, crying, and involuntary movements of hands and feet during sleep indicate excessive internal heat and toxicity, signaling that the pathology is about to manifest externally. All the aforementioned images are signs of premature death; such children suffer from frequent illnesses and are difficult to raise.
