According to the *Shenghui Fang* (Holy Benefit Formulary): If the five types of Gan syndrome (childhood malnutrition with parasitic infestation) persist for a long time without healing, parasites will accumulate in the abdomen. This leads to emaciation, sallow complexion, and persistent dysentery. It is appropriate to administer medication to expel the parasites, which will gradually alleviate the Gan qi (pathogenic factor associated with childhood malnutrition). These worms resemble fine silk hairs or horse tail bristles and are mostly expelled from the abdomen, back, head, and neck. If the worms are yellowish-white or red, the condition is treatable; if they are greenish-blue, it is difficult to cure.
Zhusha Wan (Cinnabar Pill) [from *Luxin Jing*]: Treats pediatric Gan dysentery; determines prognosis based on worm color.
Ingredients: Zhusha (Cinnabaris, amount size of half a lotus seed), Awèi (Ferulae Resina, amount size of Cinnabar), Bianfu Xue (Blood of Bat, three drops), Meisu (Brow Butter, a small amount).
Preparation and Administration: Finely mix the above ingredients. Take a small amount and blend with lip balm. First, bathe the child in decoction made from peach and willow branches. Then, depending on the child's age, place a pill the size of a mung bean into the umbilicus. Cover the umbilicus with paper. Have the child wear green clothing to cover the body. Observe if worms emerge. Yellow worms indicate mild condition; green-black worms indicate severe condition.
