When intending to use purgative methods, one must carefully inquire whether previous treatments involved purgation or if vomiting/diarrhea had occurred. If purgation or vomiting/diarrhea has already taken place, do not purge again; instead, only dispel wind, resolve phlegm, and clear heat. Generally, for ten parts of phlegm-heat, drain two-thirds of it. In purgative formulas, use Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus) and Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) to broaden the chest and unblock qi as adjuvants. Acute convulsion syndrome is urgent; treatment cannot be delayed, otherwise the condition will deepen. If recognition is unclear in the moment, do not administer drugs recklessly. Once acute convulsion syndrome has been treated sequentially to stop wind and settle convulsions, and the wind-convulsion has stabilized, there are three levels of purgatives for phlegm-heat: mild purgation initially, slightly heavier purgation, and then heavy purgation. After purgation, harmonize the stomach and boost qi, then stabilize the spirit and calm the mind, dispel wind and calm convulsions to prevent recurrence. If symptoms persist after purgation and are difficult to cure, do not purge again; consider it chronic convulsion syndrome (man jing) for detailed analysis.
