*Shenghui Fang* records: Infantile gan sores (gan sores) occur on the face and nose, are neither itchy nor painful, and often discharge fluid. Wherever the fluid flows, sores immediately form there. They can also appear on the body, and infants frequently suffer from this condition. This is caused by wind-dampness pathogens battling with blood and qi, which is why they are neither itchy nor painful; hence the name "gan sores." Qian Yi discussed external manifestations of gan sores: redness and erosion below the nose, self-rubbing of the nasal tip, presence of sores without scab formation, and gradual spread of sores around the ears. To treat nasal sores and erosion, use Lanxiang San (Orchid Fragrance Powder). For various sores, use Baifen San (White Powder) (both formulas are cited under the section "Nasal Gan").
[Zhang Huan] Sizhen Dan (Four Precious Pills): Treats various gan syndromes characterized by emaciation, scorched-yellow hair, and sores in the mouth and nose.
Dried Bufo bufo gargarizans (one specimen, remove four feet, split abdomen open, insert half tael of Coptidis Rhizoma within the abdomen, suture with thread, wrap in wet paper weighing three taels, seal all sides with mud, burn with charcoal until thoroughly red, allow to cool, remove mud, pound into fine powder) Aloe (half tael, grind) Moschus (one fen, grind)
Mix all ingredients evenly, grind again until very fine, bind with white flour paste into pills the size of millet seeds. Administer five to seven pills per dose, taken down with gruel broth, adjusting dosage according to the child's age and size.
Xiongdan Gao (Bear Bile Ointment): Treats persistent gan sores that do not heal.
Ursi Fel (Bear Gallbladder) Boas mucrosquamatus bile (snake bile) Aloe (each half tael) Vitriolum Flavum (one fen, preferably from Guazhou. Pound and sieve the above into fine powder, then add the following) Moschus Bovis Calculus (Calculus Bovis) (each one fen) Borax (one qian. All must be finely ground)
Finely grind all ingredients uniformly, mix with three he of well water until blended, place in a silver vessel, and simmer over boiling water until it forms an ointment. Apply a small amount to the affected area each time.
Formula for treating all kinds of gan toxicity with sores in infants:
Meliae Cortex (five jin, chopped) Leaves of *Euphorbia lathyris* (half tael, chopped) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Alum (each two liang) Scallion white (ten stalks)
Coarsely chop and mix evenly, boil in five dou of water for five to seven boils, continuously adding hot water to wash the sores. For chronic cases, only two treatments are needed for immediate effect.
*Tan Shi Shu Sheng* records: Treats infantile gan fatty sores, which mostly occur on the head, persisting and failing to heal after long-term exudation, as well as ear sores, etc., all of which can be treated.
Malachite Green Angelica dahurica root (each in equal proportions)
Wash the sores with decoction of fresh Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, apply the medicine, and it will heal spontaneously.
