[Xue] Mei lian (Eyebrow eczema) refers to sores appearing between the eyebrows of infants, resembling scabies or tinea. One should seek the cause and treat accordingly. The eyebrows belong to the Gallbladder Meridian. If there is inherent heat in the Liver and Gallbladder meridians due to constitutional factors, or if the wet nurse has heat in these meridians, Chaihu Zhizi San (Bupleurum and Gardenia Powder) should be used. If the wet nurse consumes rich flavors and strong wine, Jiawei Qingwei San (Modified Stomach-Clearing Powder) is indicated. If the wet nurse suffers from emotional depression and anger, Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) is prescribed. These formulas are taken by the wet nurse, and the infant drinks a small amount as well, while also addressing the primary syndrome as described previously.
[Tian] The treatment for mei lian involves applying Qingjin San (Blue Gold Powder). If it does not heal, wheat is burnt until the carbon remains (preserving its nature), ground into fine powder, and mixed with good oil for topical application.
