Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) must be selected for its deep yellow color and moist texture. Remove the rough bark, slice it, decoct to obtain the juice, add Aloe powder (Ailuo Mo), reduce heat by heating in a water bath, and store in a porcelain jar. Use the aforementioned main prescription as the primary medicine, and this as the auxiliary medicine. Match the medicines according to the severity of the illness: use more main medicine for severe cases, and more auxiliary medicine for mild cases. To remove nebulae (eye opacities), use the main medicine as the base, combined with the following auxiliary medicines, adjusted according to symptoms, listed one by one below.
Cishi (Magnetitum), made by crushing high-quality porcelain and grinding away sharp edges. Heat red-hot over charcoal fire, take out and quench in child's urine. Repeat this several times, grind into fine powder, sieve, and wrap in paper for use. If encountering stubborn old nebulae that Baodingxiang (Vomeris Faeces) cannot move, add a small amount of Cishi to abrade it. Stop once the nebula shows signs of loosening; use again every other day. This is a potent medicine and should not be used lightly. Be cautious.
Luoshi (Concha Meretricis), take several field snails, remove the operculum, add a piece of Zhusha (Cinnabar) the size of a mung bean to each, place them upside down overnight, take out, dry by decoction, then grind into powder. If encountering fleshy, dense nebulae, add a little bit. Stop once there is any movement of the nebula; use occasionally.
Luoxian (Snail Mucus), take large field snails, remove the operculum, add a little Qingyan (Green Salt), and the mucus will naturally exude. If excessive use of Luoshi causes blurred vision, use this mucus mixed with medicine to frequently instill drops to resolve the condition.
Feidan (Washed Cinnabar), processed by wet grinding (water flying), finely sieved, and wrapped in paper for use. If encountering ulcerated eye sockets, add a little and instill frequently. For severe ulcers, add Haipiaoxiao (Sepiae Endoconcha) and use together.
Luganshi (Calamina), if there is excessive tearing with watery nebulae, or ulceration of the eye socket and eyelids, use Feidan and instill drops.
Luobozhi Pengsha (Radish-processed Borax), crush Pengsha (Borax), put it in water, add slices of Radish, boil three or four times, remove the radish, and dry the decoction. Obtain the refined Pengsha free from flour impurities, grind finely, and sieve. If the nebula is too thin for heavy medicines, use this to dissolve and draw out moisture, thereby sweeping away light nebulae.
Daqingshi (Magneti Ferri Oxidatum), grind into fine powder, wrap in paper. If the nebula is thin but vision is dim and light does not shine, add medicine to instill.
Chensha (Cinnabaris), grind into powder, wrap in paper. Use this if the nebula is thin and vision is flickering/unstable.
Baodingxiang (Vomeris Faeces), i.e., sparrow droppings. Select those that are white on the outside; do not use black ones. Decoct in Licorice root water (Gancao Shui), grind finely, and wrap in paper. If the main medicine fails to remove the nebula when instilled, use this to attack it. It has the power to roll up and remove thin nebulae.
Suan Shi (Acid Stone), made by taking Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) decoction juice and absorbing Luganshi until dry. If encountering photophobia (shyness to light), use this medicine mixed with water for application.
The above ten medicines are effective as shadow follows form. However, users must apply them accurately and not neglect them. All medicinal ingredients must be authentic and carefully selected, and preparation must be done with sincerity. Practicing widely, none can rival this.
This prescription originated from Mr. Wang Zhenwu of Bozhou. Because his father was going blind from an eye disease, he posted a notice offering three hundred taels of gold as a reward. Many famous doctors gathered to treat him but failed. A Daoist priest took the notice, claimed he could cure it, and applied medicine to the eyes. Within half a month, the patient recovered. Wang Zhenwu rewarded the priest with three hundred taels of gold, but the priest refused even a fraction. The family bowed in gratitude. The priest then taught him this book, instructing Wang Zhenwu to manufacture and distribute the medicine. Countless people from near and far regained their sight. Yang Fenglin, who had a very close relationship with Wang Zhenwu, also suffered from an eye disease. After being cured, he requested to learn this book and subsequently became a famous doctor. Currently, a merchant surnamed Wang from Huizhou, who is a close relative of Yang Fenglin, obtained the true original text. An unworthy individual, while consulting a doctor at his house, saw him distributing medicine like a market. Upon asking for the reason, he personally handed over the manuscript in writing. It is a pity that his strength was limited. He only compounded the prescriptions listed later, which were also very effective. If manufactured, please distribute widely and generously, for the merit would indeed be profound.
Take eight liang of high-quality Yangnao Luganshi (Sheep-brain Calamina). Crush into pieces the size of lotus seeds. One qian is the weight unit. Place in a new copper pot filled with child's urine, soak for forty-nine days. Filter out the old urine, add fresh child's urine, and boil for the time it takes to burn one incense stick. Taste for a salty and sour flavor; do not boil further. Do not over-boil either. Grind into fine powder. Place a large piece of glazed tile, put the medicine on it, and calcine over hard charcoal fire for the duration of one incense stick. The calamine will gradually turn the color of pine pollen. Carefully and cautiously remove it. Weigh uniformly and divide into four parts. Process these four parts using four methods, listed below.
One part is boiled three times in Ginger juice (Jiangzhi). When dry, grind finely and sieve. Named Huye Gao (Tiger Liquid Paste). Store separately in a porcelain jar, ensuring it is airtight.
One part is boiled three times in a concentrated decoction of Xixin (Asari Radix), Jiesui (Perillae Folium), and Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), each one liang, yielding half a cup of thick liquid. Grind finely and sieve as before. Named Fenglin Gao (Phoenix Kirin Paste). Store separately in a porcelain jar.
One part is processed with San sheng (Silkworm Droppings) of late harvest, stir-fried to ash. Pour boiling water over the ash to extract half a cup of ash juice. Boil three times. When dry, grind finely. Named Qinglong Gao (Azure Dragon Paste). Store separately in a porcelain jar.
One part is boiled three times in child's urine. When dry, grind finely. Named Yangnao Yu (Sheep Brain Jade). Store separately in a porcelain jar.
All above must be prepared according to method. Using a copper pot for boiling is preferable. Grind extremely fine. Store each in a porcelain jar for use. Application methods are listed below.
1. Treats internal cataracts, such as cold tears in wind, photophobia, blurred vision, etc. Use Huye (6 fen), Yangnao Yu (1 fen), Fenglin (2 fen), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 fen). Mix evenly and instill.
2. Treats internal cataracts, Pterygium (Rou Ban Jing), red and white nebular membranes, blepharitis (Lan Xian), etc. Use Huye (2 fen), Yangnao Yu (4 fen), Qinglong (4.5 fen), Bingpian (1 fen). Mix evenly and instill.
3. Treats epidemic fiery eyes. Use Huye (7 fen), Yangnao Yu (4 fen), Zhusha (Cinnabar, 0.5 fen, fine powder washed with water). Mix evenly and instill.
4. Treats long-standing cloud-like nebulae obscuring the pupil, causing inability to walk, seeing only shadows like figures in white clothes. If pterygium with blood roots is treatable, use Qinglong (6 fen), Yangnao Yu (4 fen). Instill 4-5 times daily using a bone hairpin. Close eyes after instillation, open eyes when medicine is exhausted. Continue until the nebula disperses. Then use Huye (2 fen), Yangnao Yu (4 fen), Fenglin (3 fen), Bingpian (1 fen), Zhenzhu (Pearl, 0.5 fen, finely ground), Hupo (Amber, 0.5 fen, not finely ground). Mix evenly and instill according to method.
Mix and instill according to the above methods. Do not mix incorrectly to cause errors. This is not comparable to ordinary medicines. Cherish it.
Shenxiao Shuiyan Yao Fang (Divinely Effective Water Eye Medicine Prescription - Treating Various Eye Diseases)
Yangnao Luganshi soaked in child's urine: Spring 5 days, Summer 3 days, Autumn 7 days, Winter 10 days. Take out, slightly crush, place on a tile in a fire basin, calcine twice, wash clean, and dry roast ten liang.
Chensha (Cinnabar), finely ground and water-washed, four liang. Shandong Huangdan (Red Lead), water-washed and dry-roasted, ten liang. Shexiang (Moschus), finely ground, three qian. Ruxiang (Olibanum), de-oiled and finely powdered, four liang. Pengsha (Borax), finely ground, two liang. Moyao (Myrrha), de-oiled and finely powdered, four liang. Haipiaoxiao (Sepiae Endoconcha), skin removed, finely ground, water-soaked, washed clean, and dry-roasted, ten liang.
Grind all above medicines into extremely fine powders. Grind directly until no sound is produced. Weigh accurately without deviation. For every nine liang of medicinal powder, mix with one jin of refined superior white honey to form a paste. The honey must be filtered through silk cloth three times. Although the honey is refined three times, it need not be boiled to the "drop forms a pearl" stage; simply melt and filter. Store the mixture in a porcelain jar, seal with wax, and wait two months before use. The longer, the better. Proven effective.
