Guobao Wan (Bladder-Stabilizing Pill): Treats urinary incontinence caused by deficiency-cold.
Cuscutae Semen (Dodder Seed) (soaked in wine for one night, boiled until soft, pounded into threads to form cakes, dried; dosage: 2 liang) Foeniculi Fructus (Fennel Fruit) (seeds removed; dosage: 1 liang) Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Prepared Aconite Root) Sangpiaoxiao (Mantis Egg Case) (split open, roasted with rendered animal fat) Rongyan (Rocksalt) (dosage of each: half a liang)
Pound the above ingredients into fine powder. Use powder from dried Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Chinese Yam) mixed with water to form a paste as a binder. Roll into pills the size of wu zi (wu-tzu seeds). Take 50 pills orally on an empty stomach with wine.
Jiajian Sangpiaoxiao San (Modified Mantis Egg Case Powder): Treats frequent urination or enuresis due to deficiency of yang qi.
Sangpiaoxiao (Mantis Egg Case) (30 pieces, roasted with rendered animal fat) Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum (Deer Antler without Horn) (one pair, roasted with rendered animal fat) Astragali Radix (Astragalus Root) (3 liang, stir-fried with honey and wine) Ophiopogonis Radix (Ophiopogon Root) (heart removed; dosage: 2.5 liang) Schisandrae Fructus (Schisandra Berry) (half a liang) Psoraleae Fructus (Psoralea Fruit) (stir-fried with salt and wine) Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Ginseng Root and Rhizome) Eucommiae Cortex (Eucommia Bark) (stir-fried with salt and wine; dosage of each: 3 liang)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Mix with decoction prepared from sheep kidneys and take orally on an empty stomach. Additionally, chew sheep kidneys finely with red wine, or mix sheep kidney decoction with powder to form pills. Take 3 qian orally on an empty stomach with wine.
Suquan Wan (Water-Contracting Pill): Treats frequent urination due to insufficiency of bladder qi, where symptoms are worse during the day than at night.
Yizhiren (Bitter Almond Seed / Broussonetia papyrifera seed? Note: In TCM context usually refers to Alpinia oxyphylla fruit, here translated as Yizhi Ren) (stir-fried with salt, remove salt) Linderae Radix (Lindera Root) (equal parts)
Pound the above ingredients into fine powder. Use wine-boiled dried Dioscoreae Rhizoma paste to form pills the size of wu zi. Take 50-70 pills per dose. Swallow with light salt water on an empty stomach.
Bixie Fenqing Yin (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Clearing Decoction): Treats white turbidity where urine is thick like paste, accompanied by frequent urination.
Yizhiren (Bitter Almond Seed) (soaked in salt water for one night, stir-fried) Linderae Radix (Lindera Root) Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Tatarian Sweetflag Rhizome) (stir-fried with salt water) Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome) (equal parts of all four. Authentic material is large, white with yellowish tinge, smells fishy when chewed, and is loose and brittle)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add a pinch of salt, decoct with water, heat, and take orally. This formula acts upon the tailbone and spine, ensuring urine exits from the bladder, separating clear from turbid, distinguishing source from flow. Detailed analysis of urinary incontinence indicates it results from the failure of lower jiao (lower burner) yang qi to perform its functions. Therefore, the acrid-warm nature of Yizhi Ren is used to restrain and control it. With the moistening and downward-draining action of salt, and Lindera preventing upward dispersion, the effect is balanced. However, for turbid dampness seeping down from the stomach, only Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma can clear it. Combined with Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma to unblock the nine orifices and promote urination, this formula slightly omits herbs that astringe kidney essence, which holds profound significance.
