Mahuang Fujian Decoction: Treats fatigue and lassitude caused by wind-dampness, often accompanied by slight sweating.
Prescription Composition: Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (remove nodes, 1 qian).
Decoction Method: Use three cups of water, boil Mahuang first until boiling, skim off the foam on the surface, reduce to two cups of liquid, then add the following herbs.
Herbs: Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 黄芪) (2 qian), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参) (each 0.5 qian), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 柴胡), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai, 黄柏) (stir-fried with ginger juice until brown), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang, 生地黄) (each 1 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (raw 0.2 qian, honey-fried 0.3 qian), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 杏仁) (5 seeds, remove skin and tips, crush).
The above ten herbs are added to the Mahuang decoction, boiled down to one cup of liquid. Take hot while half-hungry before sleep. Do not eat too full after taking. Slight sweating is the goal; do not induce excessive sweating. Excessive sweating will cause heat to persist and lead to restlessness and irritability. In such cases, Zhizi Chi Tang (Gardenia and Fermented Soybean Decoction) can be used to resolve it.

Decoction Method: Except for Wutou, crush the other four herbs. Boil in three sheng of water to obtain one sheng of liquid, filter out the dregs. Add the Wutou from the honey decoction into the herbal liquid and boil again. Divide into two doses. If ineffective, take the entire remaining amount.

Prescription Composition: Ricini Semen (Bimazi, 蓖麻子) (shelled, 1 liang, crushed), Aconiti Radix (Chuanwutou, 川乌头) (raw, peeled, 0.5 liang), Boswelliae Resina (Ruxiang, 乳香) (1.5 qian, crushed).
Usage: Grind the above herbs into a paste using pig fat. Heat the paste and apply to the affected area, massaging with the palm of the hand. Effective when a burning hot sensation is felt.

Decoction Method: Grind into powder. Take 2-3 qian per dose, mix with hot wine. Take once in the morning and once at night. The original editor processed Tianma with 1 liang of Chuanwu boiled in wine, and processed Baizhu with 1 liang of Cangzhu and 0.5 liang of Huangbai boiled in wine. This deeply grasps the principle of the three pathogens invading the Yin meridians.
Lingyangjiao San: Treats Jinbi (sinew bi) with binding pain in limbs and joints.
Prescription Composition: Saigae Tataricae Cornu (Lingyangjiao, 羚羊角) (sliced, 1 liang), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 肉桂) (World version mistakenly says Bohe/Mint), Aconiti Radix Preparata (Fuzi, 附子) (prepared, each 0.5 liang), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 白芍) (1.5 liang), Actaeaes Rhizoma (Duhuo, 独活), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (each 0.75 liang), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (1 liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) (1.5 liang).

Wuzhuyu San: Treats Chang Bi (intestinal bi) with internal collision of cold-dampness, abdominal pain and distension, diarrhea with undigested food.

Prescription Composition: Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong, 麦门冬) (remove heart), Mori Cortex (Sangbaipi, 桑白皮) (honey-wine fried), Rhinocerotis Cornu (Xijiao, 犀角) (sliced, each 1 qian), Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong, 杜仲) (salt-wine fried), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 桔梗), Rubi Cordifolii Folium [Note: Text says Chishaoyao/Paeoniae Radix Rubra] (Chishaoyao, 赤芍药), Akebiae Caulis (Mutong, 木通) (each 1.5 qian), Stalkers Ootheca (Sangpiaoxiao, 桑螵蛸) (two pieces, fried).
Decoction Method: Use two cups of water, add two sheep kidneys, remove fat membrane, slice with bamboo knife, add a little bamboo sap. Boil together to one cup. Take in one gulp on an empty stomach. Retain the dregs for guidance/treatment, take before bed. The original editor notes the absence of Chishaoyao and presence of Chifuling in earlier versions. Detailed analysis suggests Shaoyao's sour astringency is less effective than Fulings' ability to clear the heart and promote urination. Commentary: The name "Shenli" describes the qi of the bladder being blocked and not transforming, leading to dripping urine, or even blockage by stones. This is due to deficiency-heat stagnation and failure of bladder qi transformation. Sangbaipi and Sangpiaoxiao target the Lung, not Kidney deficiency-cold, so warming tonics should not be used. If symptoms include frequent small amounts of urine, forgetting during intercourse, or enuresis during sleep, this indicates Kidney deficiency-cold, which this formula does not treat.
Fuling Wan: Treats Bao Bi affecting the lower abdomen and bladder, internal pain upon pressure, feeling like hot water poured inside, difficult urination, and clear nasal discharge above.
Prescription Composition: Polyporus (Chifuling, 赤茯苓) (1 liang), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛) (5 qian), Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie, 泽泻) (5 qian), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 肉桂) (5 qian), Asteris Radix (Ziwan Rong, 紫菀茸) (1 liang), Aconiti Radix Preparata (Fuzi, 附子) (prepared, 3 qian), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang, 生地黄) (1 liang), Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 牛膝) (wine-soaked, 1 liang), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu Rou, 山茱萸肉) (5 qian), Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Ganshashen, 干山药) (1 liang).
Decoction Method: Grind into powder, make pills with honey, size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 50-70 pills per dose before meals with rice drink, and before bed with warm wine. Commentary: Although named for Fulings' diuretic action, the main function relies on Niuxi, Dihuang, and Shanyao to nourish fluids. Rougui and Fuzi provide acrid warmth to move the stagnation of Niuxi and Dihuang. This captures the essence of "feeling like hot water, difficult urination." Ziwan moistens the source above and benefits the bladder below. Xixin is key for opening upper orifices to treat clear nasal discharge. The nine herbs form a complete prescription without omission. Later editions added Huangqi, Baizhu, Gancao, Shaoyao, Huafen, Banxia, Fangfeng, Duhuo, etc., which are cloying and consume yin, hence removed from this edition.
Baji Wan: Treats Bao Bi deficiency-cold, umbilical and abdominal pain, frequent but difficult urination, nocturnal enuresis.
Prescription Composition: Morindae Officinalis Radix (Baji, 巴戟) (remove core), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang, 生地黄) (wine-baked, each 1.5 liang), Stalkers Ootheca (Sangpiaoxiao, 桑螵蛸) (cut and fried), Cynomorii Herba (Roucongrou, 肉苁蓉) (wine-soaked, cut and baked), Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao, 山药), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu Rou, 山茱萸肉), Cuscutae Semen (Tusizi, 菟丝子) (wine-boiled, each 1 liang), Aconiti Radix Preparata (Fuzi, 附子) (prepared), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 肉桂) (do not expose to fire, each 5 qian), Polygalae Radix (Yuanzhi, 远志) (soaked in Licorice decoction, remove core, 4 qian), Dendrobii Caulis (Shihu, 石斛) (remove roots, 8 qian), Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum (Lurong, 鹿茸) (one pair, roasted with butter).
Decoction Method: Grind into powder, make pills with refined white honey, size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 30-50 pills per dose on empty stomach and before bed, washed down with rice drink or warm wine. Sheep kidney soup is also good; yellow silk soup is excellent. Commentary: Baji Wan treats deficiency-cold of Bao Bi. Frequent but difficult urination usually indicates bladder heat-stagnation. Why use large doses of hot herbs like Rougui, Fuzi, Baji, Roucongrou, Lurong? Because the patient has long-term Kidney Qi deficiency allowing cold pathogens to enter, causing umbilical pain and failure of Juyang (Taiyang) qi transformation. Even if stagnant urine turns to heat, only warming tonification can vaporize qi transformation. It mimics Dihuang Yinzi, adding Dihuang and Shihu to address false heat, avoiding diuretics. Earlier editions had 12 herbs; later editions added Duzhong, Xuduan, Longgu, Wuweizi, which may exacerbate astringency issues.
Bajitian Tang: Treats Cold Bi with pain in legs and knees, difficulty walking.
Prescription Composition: Morindae Officinalis Radix (Bajitian, 巴戟天) (2 qian, remove heart), Aconiti Radix Preparata (Fuzi, 附子) (prepared), Acanthopanacis Senticosi Cortex (Wujia Pi, 五加皮) (wine-washed), Dendrobii Caulis (Shihu, 石斛), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (honey-fried), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) (each 1 qian), Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 牛膝) (wine-stir-fried), Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma (Chuanbixie, 川萆薢) (salt-wine fried, each 1.5 qian), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 肉桂), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji, 防己) (wine-washed, each 0.5 fen), Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang, 生姜) (3 slices).
Decoction Method: Boil in water, take warm on an empty stomach.
