Wang (Left) Yin deficiency with phlegm accumulation, Gallbladder and Stomach Qi failing to descend, Liver Yang moving secretly. Whenever sleep is imminent, palpitations and startle occur. Medicated shell substances are prescribed to settle the Liver and subdue Yang.

Certain patient Last year suffered from vertigo and palpitations, even to the point of mental confusion due to Heart Qi. After nourishing Water to nurture Wood (nourishing Kidney Yin to support Liver), Liver Heat was resolved, and various symptoms significantly subsided. However, palpitations have not completely ceased, and timidity is occasionally felt. The Liver and Gallbladder both belong to Wood in the Five Elements; Liver Wood ascends, while Gallbladder Wood descends, constituting a state of harmony. If Liver ascent is excessive, Gallbladder descent is insufficient, causing Gallbladder Wood to float and become uprooted, naturally leading to Qi deficiency. This constitutes disease of the Gallbladder and Liver. The Classics state: "For deficiency, tonify its mother." The mother of Wood is Water (Kidney). Therefore, to lower Gallbladder Qi, one must first extinguish Liver Yang; to extinguish Liver Yang, one must first nourish Kidney Yin.
