He (Bazi Bridge, 21 years old) This is a Liver disease. The Liver governs the sinews and belongs to the Wood organ, housing internal Wind-Fire. Due to emotional distress, heat arises from within, scorching the sinews and invading the bones, resulting in stiffness and discomfort. Only joy can calm this; medication cannot cure the root cause (Heat arising from within is indeed due to Yin deficiency of the Liver and Kidney leading to rampant internal Wind-Fire, which flies and wanders; thus, herbs that cool the Liver are indispensable.)
Polygonum multiflorum Radix Preparata (Shouwu), Lycii Fructus (Gouqi), Taxilli Herba (Sangjisheng), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Guishen), Astragali Complanati Semen (Shayuan), Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong).
Since it is stated that heat arises from within, scorching sinews and invading bones, this formula still lacks one or two herbs to cool the Liver.
Wu (Zhubo Bridge, 63 years old) Cold has entered the collaterals of the Jueyin channel, condensing into Qi Hernia. Pain causes distension and rising Qi, while silence leads to Qi消散 with no trace. The lower Yuan (Kidney and Mingmen) of the elderly is already deficient; breaking Qi to attack hernia is contraindicated. One should warm and nourish the lower Yuan. If there is urethral distension or urinary obstruction, assist with unblocking methods, imitating the principle of Xiangrong Wan.
Cervi Cornu Degelatinatum (Lurong), Foeniculi Fructus (Dahui), Trifolii Semen (Jiuizi), Cnidii Fructus (Shechuangzi), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Moschus (Shexiang), Sal (Qingyan), Rubi Fructus (Fupenzi).
Warming the meridians does not use harsh/dry herbs, primarily because the elderly's lower Yuan is initially deficient, and Kidney deficiency dislikes dryness; thus, soft and yin-nourishing herbs are used as the main treatment.
Dai (Taixing, 28 years old) The complexion and pulse indicate Yin deficiency. The throat obstruction to swallowing is due to Yin fluids failing to ascend, with heat rising from the left side, internally corresponding to the Yin Fire of the Liver and Kidney. The previous proposal used Fumai Tang, but loose stools occurred, indicating that Stomach Qi has long been damaged by illness and cannot tolerate Yin-nourishing herbs. One must rest in a quiet room for regulation; neither cold nor hot biased medicines can cure this (For Yin deficiency, avoiding Yin herbs opens a new path: only nourishing Lung and Stomach Jin-Ye and cultivating the Yuan Qi of the Middle Palace is the fundamental strategy).
Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Phaseoli Radiatus Semen (Bidou), Dendrobii Caulis (Chuanhu), Poria (Fushen), Chaenomelis Fructus (Mugua), Glehniae Radix (Beishashen).
Whenever there is throat obstruction to swallowing, it is always due to Qi and Fire ascending, with Yin essence unable to support the upper body. However, directly nourishing the Yin of the Liver and Kidney will burden the Spleen and Stomach with cloying properties; if diarrhea occurs, Yin fluids will flow downward further. Only nourishing Stomach Yin and allowing it to ascend to the Lung is a very rapid method.
Wang (Wuqu Fang, 45 years old) Clear orifices are located in the Upper Jiao Qi level; using nasal insufflation to unblock Qi transmission is indeed clever. But chronic illness causes Qi stagnation, inevitably generating Damp-Phlegm. Chatao San should be taken at bedtime, 5 fen.
Advancing one layer, the insight is unique. If tangible Damp-Phlegm is not addressed, Qi level will never be unblocked, and clear orifices will hardly be cleared. The treatment method for such minor ailments is distinct and admirable.
Yang (Haining, 26 years old) This is Laoqie (consumptive weakness), caused by depletion and withering of Kidney Essence. Dragon-Lei Fire flashes like lightning without restraint. The Kidney meridian runs through the throat; repeatedly scorched by Yin Fire, it must become ulcerated and painful. Winter fails to store Essence, Spring growth is silent, Stomach Qi is exhausted, how can herbal medicines provide nourishment?
