Tianmingjing (Crucianellae Herba), also known as Zhoumiancao (Wrinkled-face Grass), Huolücao (Living-deer Grass), and Xiamalan (Toad-blue).
Yuanyi (Moss on wall) and Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) serve as guiding herbs.
Sweet, acrid, cold in nature. Breaks up blood stasis masses (Xuejia), drains pathogenic heat, treats phlegm-malaria (Tan Nüe), opens throat obstruction, relieves toothache, and is applied externally for sores and carbuncles. Crushed to extract juice, mixed with pork juice, it treats abdominal pain caused by parasites. Taken alone as crushed juice, it induces vomiting of phlegm associated with malaria.
Mixed with wine lees and applied externally after crushing, it treats ding sores (hard, painful skin infections). A small amount of Qingfan (Alum) added and applied locally treats throat swelling.
Used as fresh crushed juice, it induces vomiting.
This refers to Tianmingzi (Crucianellae Fructus).
Acrid, bitter, cool in nature. Slightly toxic. It is a key herb for treating severe abdominal pain attacking the heart caused by insect bites, stops malaria, and dissipates phlegm qi. Crushed into powder, mixed with light vinegar, it treats parasitic pain attacking the heart. Crushed into powder, mixed with fatty meat juice, it treats parasitic pain.
Strange symptom: Intestinal worms are expelled continuously; if cut, they regenerate, making sitting and walking impossible. Use 5 qian of Heshi powder (Carpesii Fructus), mixed with water and taken orally.
(Bitter, acrid, slightly toxic. Raw use is cold, cooked use is warm. Enters the Blood aspect of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Specifically treats limb numbness and paralysis due to wind-dampness, pain in bones and tendons, and weakness in waist and knees.)
Steamed with honey and wine, then sun-dried nine times before use. Alternatively, crushed to extract juice and boiled into an ointment, adding Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and white honey to consolidate; taken down with wine. Fresh crushed juice taken orally induces vomiting. Contraindicated in cases of Yin-blood deficiency and dual deficiency of Spleen and Kidney.
(Sweet, cold. Enters the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian, and concurrently the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Clears Lung qi, promotes urination, stops various types of bleeding. Taken down with glutinous rice soup, it treats intestinal wind bleeding.)
(Burnt to charcoal.) Mixed with Huashi (Talcum) and burnt to charcoal, it treats urinary retention (Zhuan Pao) in men and women. Mixed with Canzhi (Silkworm pupa paper) and burnt to charcoal, it treats persistent menstruation (Yueyue buzhi). Mixed with flour and burnt to charcoal, it treats nasal hemorrhage (Bini) due to Lung heat. Burnt to charcoal, ground into powder, with a small amount of Shexiang (Moschus) added, it treats Qi pain in the lower abdomen and clear urine flowing like a stream; it also treats inverted acne/variola (Douchuang dao ye).
Decoction used to boil other herbs clears heat and cools blood. Burnt to charcoal, it stops bleeding. Contraindicated in cases of Liver cold.
This refers to Lugan (Arundinis Medulla / Reed pith).
Sweet, cold. Enters the Blood aspect of the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian and Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian. Circulates Qi and Blood throughout the body (after pathogenic heat is removed, Qi and Blood circulate naturally). Removes deficient heat in the Upper Jiao. Assisted by Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), glutinous rice, and Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma), it treats cholera with irritability and thirst. Assisted by Taoren (Persicae Semen), Yiren (Coicis Semen), and Guaaban (Benincasae Semen), it treats Lung abscess cough (Fei Yong) (recovery occurs after purulent blood is expectorated).
The outer skin of Lugan burnt to charcoal, with a small amount of Bangfen (Tridacninae Concha), taken down with Maidong decoction, treats persistent hematemesis. Decocted, filtered, and added to herbal preparations for oral administration.
