Can neutralize Cinnabaris (Mercury Sulfide), Alum, and Realgar.
Acidic in flavor, cold in nature. Enters the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, and also the Taiyang Meridian. Treats stranguria and leukorrhea; resolves heat-toxicity; washes hemorrhoidal pain and rectal prolapse; applies to burns/scalds and snake or scorpion bites. Combined with juice of *Plantago asiatica* (Cheqiancao) and rock sugar, promotes urination and defecation.
(Eight species of Moss/Tai)
Is *Zhilí*, also known as Water Moss.
Pungent in flavor, neutral in nature. Promotes digestion and stops diarrhea. (Due to its diuretic effect.) Combined with *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin), treats visceral toxicity. Juice applied internally treats epidemic febrile diseases.
Strange symptom: Edema of muscles on the body, head, and face, resembling a snake shape. Use one qian of moss traces from bricks on steps where raindrops have fallen, dissolve in water, and apply to the "snake's" head for immediate resolution.
Is *Nori* (Sea Moss), commonly called Taicai.
Salty in flavor, cold in nature. Treats goiter and qi stagnation; stops vomiting and restlessness; resolves tea accumulation; applies to carbuncles/toxins.
Burned to ash and insufflated into the nose, stops epistaxis.
Sweet in flavor, cold in nature. Expels pathogenic heat, harmonizes the five zang organs. Resolves epidemic heat-toxicity, stops the five strangurias, hematemesis, and epistaxis. For swelling of the back of the hand, soak in hot water, crush, and apply externally.
Acidic in flavor, cold in nature. Enters the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. Mainly treats sudden high fever, lockjaw, traumatic injuries, jaundice, and restlessness.
Moss growing on walls stops epistaxis; use crushed juice. For burns/scalds, burn to powder and mix with oil for application.
Sweet in flavor, cold in nature. Enters the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Regulates water metabolism, stops thirst, treats skin heat, and alternating chills and fever. Rinsing mouth with salt water treats gum swelling and exposure due to heat-toxicity.
Moss growing on roof tiles treats epistaxis; swallow with fresh well water.
Pungent in flavor, neutral in nature. Eliminates pathogenic qi in the five zang organs, treats pain in the yin region. Astringes rectal prolapse, warms the "water organ" (Kidney/Bladder), treats wind-induced vertigo, and resolves masses. Combined with *Sanguisorba officinalis* (Diyu), treats lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
Combined with *Platycladus orientalis* (Cebaiye), treats intestinal redness (hematochezia). Those growing on mountains are boiled in salt water, dried, and used.
Is white lichen on mulberry trees (*Bai Xian*).
Bitter in flavor, neutral in nature. Enters the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. Strengthens the spleen and astringes the intestines. Stops epistaxis and hematemesis; suitable for wind-heat in the intestines, metrorrhagia/metrostaxis, leukorrhea, and heat cough.
Pungent in flavor, neutral in nature. Enters the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Clears lung metal, disperses blood heat, resolves head toxins, and treats throat conditions. Assisted by *Arctium lappa* (Niubangzi) and *Scrophularia ningpoensis* (Yuanshen), treats warm-toxicity causing parotitis.
Mixed with rock sugar and well water, treats hematemesis due to accumulated heat. Grows on rotting wood, resembles lungs/liver in shape, is purple-black in color, and releases powder when tapped.
