Pain due to Dampness: Take one sheng of glutinous rice, cook it until soft and mushy. Crush six or seven pills of medicine into the rice along with white wine. Apply this mixture to the painful area, wrap it with paper and cloth externally. It will heal in two days. (From *Chuanjia Bao*)
Pain due to Wind-Cold-Dampness: When the back of the legs is affected by wind-cold-dampness, causing bone-penetrating pain that is difficult to treat with internal medication, use the wooden trough used for steaming liquor in a distillery during the dog days of summer. Heat the trough in a pot, wrap it in two pieces of cloth, and apply hot moxibustion/heat therapy to the painful area. Replace when it cools down until all cold-dampness is expelled and healing occurs. (Ibid.)
