Consumptive tuberculosis (a contagious chronic wasting disease, i.e., pulmonary tuberculosis) presents with a deep and silent condition; the patient appears as if unaffected. Over months, it gradually leads to emaciation and exhaustion. Eventually, it becomes incurable, spreading to family members, potentially wiping out the entire household, and even infecting other families. This tragic and toxic disaster shocks those who hear of it.
The method for differentiation and verification is: burn frankincense (Boswelliae Resina) to fumigate the patient's hand. The patient should hold their palm upward, covered with a cloth, and be fumigated for a considerable time. If hair about one cun long grows on the back of the hand, white with a yellowish tint indicates a treatable case; red indicates a difficult-to-save case; blue-black indicates death. If no hair grows after prolonged fumigation, it is not consumptive tuberculosis, but rather an ordinary deficiency-fatigue syndrome (Xu Lao). (From *Li Shicai Fang*)
Another method: Burn benzoin (Anxi Xiang) and have the patient inhale and swallow the smoke. If coughing persists, it is consumptive tuberculosis; if there is no cough, it is not consumptive tuberculosis; if the cough is mild, it is also not consumptive tuberculosis. (Ibid.)
Take cloth stained with the menstrual blood of the woman, wrap a toad in it, and bury it five cun underground at a spot approximately one chi away from the toilet. (From *Zhang Hua Bowuzhi*)
Stone leeches (Shi Zhi), found attached to branches of wild trees and grasses, attach to human feet, penetrate muscles, and enter flesh to harm the body. Apply ointment made by boiling lard (Lar Pig Oil) mixed with salt to the calves and toes; this prevents harm even if bitten by stone leeches. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
(Stings from stone leeches) often lead to death. Burn rush mats into ash and mix with egg white to apply to the affected area. (Ibid.)
Apply honey mixed with dried ginger powder to the lesion. (From *Zhouhou Fang*)
Another method: Burn the strap of a steamer into ash and apply with egg white. (From *Weisheng Yijian Fang*)
Decoct roots of Polygonum aviculare (Shui Hong Hua Gen) to make a decoction for washing/fumigating the lesion. Dry the leaves, grind them into powder, and sprinkle the powder on the sore once a month. (From *Tan Ye Weng Shiyian Fang*)
Boil fat pork to extract juice and wash the area; approximately twenty jin of pork may suffice for cure. (From *Sun Taoren Fang*)
Stir-fry peach kernels (Tao Ren) and apricot kernels (Xing Ren) until all smoke dissipates, grind into a paste, wrap in cotton, and insert into the vagina. (From *Yiliang Li Shi Kan Fang*)
Burn eggplant root (Qie Gen) until charred but retaining its medicinal properties, grind into powder, mix with oil, spread on paper, roll into a tube, and insert into the vaginal orifice. Change once daily. (From *Qiankun Shengyi*)
Mugwort leaf (Ai Ye, 5 liang), Saposhnikovia root (Fang Feng, 3 liang), and Euphorbia root (Da Ji, 1 liang). Decoct in water, wash the area while hot, avoid wind and cold, then apply fresh fish gallbladder juice internally. (From *Qifang Zuanyao*)
Cnidium fruit (She Chuang Zi, 1 liang), Mugwort leaf (Ai Ye), Chinese gallnut (Wu Bei Zi), Alum (Ming Fan), Apricot kernel (Xing Ren, each 5 qian), and Coptis rhizome (Chuan Lian, 3 qian). Decoct in water and wash; healing will follow immediately. (Ibid.)
Another method: Use stir-fried and ground apricot kernel (Xing Ren, 5 qian), Alum (Bai Fan, 5 qian), and Cnidium fruit (She Chuang Zi, 3 qian). Decoct in water and wash the area. (Ibid.)
