Sweating during the day at any time is called spontaneous sweating (Zihan), which belongs to Yang deficiency. Sweating during sleep is called night sweating (Daohan), which belongs to Yin deficiency. Use Galla Chinensis (Wubeizi) ground into powder, mixed with saliva, filled into the umbilicus and secured; it will stop in one night. (*Ji Ling*)
Another prescription: use Radix Ephedrae (Mahuanggen), Gensha (Ge Fen), and Setaria Italica (Sumi) (in equal parts) ground into powder, placed in a bag and dusted on the body; this is excellent. (*Bencao Congxin*)
Spontaneous sweating that does not stop: Use Polygonum multiflorum (Heshouwu) powder mixed with saliva, applied to the umbilicus. (*Jijian Fang*)
Night sweating: Remove worm-eaten parts of Galla Chinensis (Wubeizi), dry by roasting, and grind into powder. For males, mix with female saliva; for females, mix with male saliva. Make a thick paste, fill into the umbilicus, cover with a plaster, do not let air escape; it will heal after two applications. (*Zhongdetang Fang*)
Hand sweating: Use Pueraria lobata (Gegen) (each 1 liang), Schizonepeta (Jingjie), and Saposhnikovia divaricata (Fangfeng) (each 2 qian). Decoct in water to make a basin of soup. First fumigate with heat, then wash when warm; it will stop after three times. (*Shishi Mi Lu*)
Foot sweating: Decoct Alum (Baifan) and Pueraria lobata (Gegen) in water to wash. (*Jisheng Bian*)
Excessive sweating on the soles of feet: Burn soil from a corpse field, spread inside shoe soles, and rub against the feet; ash can also be used. (*Jixuan Fang*)
Applying to breasts to stop sweating: Curcuma aromatica (Chuyu Jin) ground into fine powder, mixed with saliva before bedtime, applied to the breasts; sweating stops spontaneously. (*Yizong Bidu*)
Bone-steaming fever: Realgar (Xionghuang) 1 liang (ground), added to one sheng of urine, ground until powdery. Take a piece of Huangli stone one chi square, burn it with charcoal for about the time of three meals. Pour thick liquid onto the stone, place a thin felt mat on top, have the patient sit naked on it, surround with clothes and quilts to prevent heat loss; recover after three to five treatments. (*Waitai Miyao*)
Deficiency fire causing back heat: When deficiency fire rises and the interior of the back feels hot as if roasted, apply Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi) powder mixed with saliva to Yongquan (KI1). (*Zhai Xuan Fang*)
Burning incense to treat consumption: Scrophularia ningpoensis (Xuanshen) 1 jin, Nardostachys chinensis (Gansong) 6 liang, ground into powder. Mix with refined honey 1 jin, seal in a bottle, bury in the ground for ten days, then take out. Add wood ash 6 liang and refined honey 6 liang, mix well, put in a bottle, bury again for five days, take out and burn. Constantly inhale the fragrance, and the disease will heal itself. Song said: Seal tightly in a bottle on the eighth day, boil for one shichen, break the bottle, take out and pound, add honey, store in another bottle, bury in the ground overnight; can also be used to fumigate clothes. (*Jingyan Danfang*)
Moxibustion method for treating "labor worms": On a Guihai day, moxibustion is performed on the depressed acupoints in both lower waist areas. Moxa sticks are burned seven times per acupoint; eleven times is especially good. Mark the acupoints one day prior, sleep until midnight Zi hour, enter the Guihai period, then perform moxibustion. The worms will all exit through the stool, immediately burn them with fire, and bury them deep in a pit. (*Zhengzhi Huibu*)
Excellent method for saving consumption weakness: For men or women suffering from any consumption weakness, use high-quality arrowhead sand (1 liang) and transparent realgar (5 qian), grind together into fine powder, wrap securely in single-layer silk paper. Select a healthy girl aged twelve or thirteen who has not yet menstruated. Place the medicine inside the girl's umbilicus, bind with a sweat towel for one week. Remove and weigh the medicine; if it weighs more than three qian heavier than before, it is even better. Immediately tie it to the patient's umbilicus. Prepare over ten bowls of human milk beforehand. Wait until the patient complains of dry mouth and thirst, give milk to drink. Stop giving milk when thirst stops, then remove the medicine from the umbilicus. The disease will naturally depart. Follow up with tonic nourishment and regulation; nine out of ten will survive. (*Chuanji Bao*)
Method to prevent transmission of yin-extinction labor worms: Historically, ten cases of consumption rarely see one recovery, mainly because there are "labor worms" in the lungs, making medical treatment ineffective. It is known that before the patient dies, the worms must fly out, or enter various orifices, gradually forming incurable consumption, known as "transmitting corpse consumption." Transmission mostly occurs among relatives, either taking advantage of the person being confused/busy or sleeping deeply, allowing worms to enter orifices, thus spreading widely and severely with no cure. I obtained a divine method from an unusual person to avoid these worms, thereby eliminating the risk of transmission. The method is: a few days before the patient passes away, burn several jin of Shui Longgu (i.e., old oil-forged iron hoops for barrels on boats, common among boatmen) continuously in front of the sickbed. The patient will speak deliriously, seemingly resenting the smoke deeply, likely because the worms feeding on blood have become monstrous and are forced back by the smoke, unable to fly out, expressing their hatred through human speech. After the patient dies, continue burning. A distinct bulge will clearly appear on the chest, indicating the labor worms have died trapped inside. Since the worms cannot fly out, the infectious disease is cut off. This method is extremely effective. I hope those who know this will spread it widely, allowing affected families to forever escape this disaster, which is accumulating virtue. (Same source)
