Treats carbuncles, back sores (back abscesses), malignant ulcers, and initial swelling/toxicity, as well as injuries from venomous snakes or mad dogs. Slice garlic into pieces as thick as a coin, place on the swollen area, and moxa-ignite (moxibustion). Replace with fresh garlic when it becomes cooked. Initially, ignition causes pain; stop when the pain ceases. If there is no initial pain, continue until extreme pain occurs, then stop.
Another prescription: Treats back abscesses. Take the root bark of the elm tree (also known as old willow), chop finely, soak and wash in clear water, pound extremely fine, and mix with sesame oil. Apply evenly to the affected area, leaving only the sore head exposed for ventilation. If the medicine dries and feels tight, moisten with bitter tea; if it does not stick, replace with fresh medicine. As it heals, chew mulberry leaves until the fibers break, apply according to the size of the sore, gradually shrinking until the opening closes. This is miraculous.
Another prescription: Treats carbuncles and back abscesses. Take the roots of Cirsium japonicum (commonly called wild red flower, leaves resemble Sonchus oleraceus but have thorns at the tips, flowers in April-May), any amount. Wash clean, chop finely, grind into a paste, and apply to the sore. It feels cold as ice; early-stage cases can dissipate, and formed pus cases can quickly ulcerate.
Another prescription: Take 2 liang of ox-hide glue and 2 sheng of wine, boil together until the glue dissolves and cools to warm temperature. Have the patient drink slowly until finished. If not yet formed into an abscess, it will dissipate; if formed, it will easily ulcerate; if already ulcerated, it will heal easily. If ineffective, take again for certain efficacy.
Treats carbuncles that do not dissipate and have formed pus but cannot rupture spontaneously. Take one empty silkworm cocoon shell after the moth has emerged, burn to ash, mix with wine, and ingest to induce rupture.
Another prescription: Treats swelling/toxicity not yet ruptured. Take one toad, first treat with calcined ferrous carbonate (dugongshi), then chop the toad finely, mix with the calcined ash, and grind into a mud-like paste. Spread on cloth and apply to the affected area to induce spontaneous rupture.
Treats all carbuncles and initial breast abscesses in women. Crush Lophatherum gracile stems/leaves (Lusi Teng), avoiding iron tools. Use 1 liang of raw large licorice root nodes (Gancao Jie). Add two bowls of water, simmer slowly to one bowl, add one large bowl of non-intoxicating wine, boil for ten more boils, strain, and divide into three doses for warm ingestion. If raw materials are unavailable, dried ones may be used but with weaker potency. Additionally, take a handful of fresh leaves, pound into a paste, mix with a little wine to appropriate consistency, apply around the four sides of the sore, leaving the center open to vent toxic gases. Highly effective.
Another prescription: Use flowers of Abutilon theophrasti, sprinkle with salt, place in a porcelain jar, seal tightly, and store for years without spoiling. Apply to the affected area as needed. If flowers are unavailable, roots and leaves can be used.
Another prescription: Treats carbuncles and back abscesses. At the onset of swelling, immediately take a piece of paper, wet it with water, and place on the swelling. Observe which point dries first; this is the "true top" (center of the abscess). Make a ring of dough mixed with water, place it on the true top, then place one large leech (Ma Hui) inside. Frequently irrigate with cold water. The leech will suck the acupoint, and when pus and blood flow out, the toxin disperses. If the toxin is large and the leech small, use three or four leeches for effect. If it sucks the true point, the leech will die; revive it with water, and the sore will heal. Tested repeatedly with miraculous results. If bleeding does not stop, apply pounded lotus root node to stop it; mugwort flowers are also good.
Another prescription: Treats carbuncles, back abscesses, scrofula (Luoli), ding sores, and fistulas. Protects the pericardium and naturally resolves various toxins internally. Take 2 liang of raw Ming Fan (alum), grind into powder. Melt 1 liang 2 qian of yellow beeswax. On the stove, mix the alum powder into the melted wax. Roll into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 15 pills each time with warm water or cold wine. Alternatively, use equal parts of burnt white alum and roasted salt, finely ground. Take one qian each time, mixed with new water. Re-take if the sore has not receded; stop when the sore recedes and pain is felt. For fistulas, use the inner skin of chicken gizzard (Jizhoubi) as powder to plug the hole.
Treats osteomyelitis (Fugu Ju) that has not healed for a long time, with foul pus or bone protruding from the sore. Take one large toad, chopped; a handful of tangled hair, size of a chicken egg; 4 liang of lard. Boil the previous medicines in lard, strain, and make into a ointment. First, wash with decoction of mulberry root bark and black soybeans, dry, sprinkle Longgu (fossilized bone) powder around the edges of the sore to facilitate convergence, then apply the ointment.
Treats ischiorectal abscess (Zuoma Yong). Burn discarded spindle strings from a spinning wheel to ash and apply.
Treats chancroid/perineal abscess (Bian Yong). Take uncursed soap pod (Zaojiao), roast, dry in shade, grind to powder, mix with wine, and ingest. Or take 10 soap bean seeds (Zaojiazi) with water. Alternatively, roast soap pods until charred, mix with equal parts of roasted starch (Xiaofen), mix well, adjust with hot vinegar, spread on paper, and apply to the affected area, frequently moistening with water. Effective.
Another prescription: Take 7 walnut kernels, roast, dry in shade, grind to powder, mix with wine, and ingest. Not exceeding three doses. Or mix with raw honey and rice flour. Stop eating solid food, promote urination. Effective.
Treats penile abscess in men. Grind turtle shell (Biejia) to powder, mix with egg white, and apply.
Treats ding sores. Take roots, stems, and leaves of Xanthium sibiricum (Cangerzi), ensuring they are of one color. Burn to ash, mix with vinegar to form a mud paste, apply. Replace when dry. Within ten applications, the root will be extracted.
Another prescription: Mix raw honey and last year's green onion, grind into a paste. First, pierce the surrounding area of the sore with bamboo splinters. Then spread the medicine on the sore, cover with red silk. After the time it takes a person to walk twenty li, feel the ding sore emerge, then wash with hot vinegar water.
Another prescription: Pound white plum flesh and lychee flesh together into a paste, shape into cakes, and apply according to the size of the sore. The root will be removed.
Another prescription: Treats dying ding sores. Take a handful of Chrysanthemum indicum leaves, juice them, obtain one zhen of juice, and ingest to revive. In winter, use the roots. This prescription is miraculous.
Another prescription: Grind cicada slough (Chantui) and silkworm pupae (Jiangcan) into powder, mix with sour vinegar, apply to the four sides, leaving the sore opening. When the root grows slightly longer, remove it, then re-apply medicine to the sore.
Another prescription: Take Chan Su (toad venom), mix with wheat flour and lead tetroxide (Huangdan) to form a pill the size of a wheat grain. Use fingernails to insert into the sore. For severe cases, puncture the affected area with a needle, insert one pill, and cover with Shui Chen Gao (water-sedimented ointment). Method for obtaining Chan Su: Pierce the eyebrows of a toad (Laige), press out the venom onto oil paper or mulberry leaves, hang in a shaded place overnight until dry and white. Store in goose quill tubes. Method for Shui Chen Gao: Take half a qian of Baitjie (Bletilla striata) powder, sink in a cup of water, clarify by removing water, spread on leather paper, and apply to the sore.
Treats fish-umbilicus ding sores. Take loofah leaves, green onions with roots, and Chinese chives. Pound in a stone mortar until mashed like laundry. Mix with wine and ingest. Initially apply to the axilla. If the disease is in the left hand, apply to the left axilla; right hand to right axilla; left foot to left groin; right foot to right groin; middle to the umbilicus. Wrap with cloth. Wait until the downward red threads turn white to indicate healing. If there is tidal fever, use this method, but hold the patient firmly to prevent trembling/falling, which would be hard to rescue.
Another prescription: Treats fish-umbilicus sores where the black skin breaks and yellow fluid floats on the edges. Burn snake slough (Shetui) to retain its nature, grind finely, mix with egg white, and apply.
