[Bao Sheng Jiu Ku San] (Note: Although listed under this chapter, the text actually contains multiple independent prescriptions)
First Prescription:
Take Mercury (Hydrargyrum), Niter (Natrii Nitras), and Alum (Alumen) (each 1 liang). Place them in a copper basin. Grind them together until no silver specks are visible. This is the endpoint. Use a coarse bowl to hold the medicine, compact it firmly. Cover with another bowl on top, tighten securely with iron wire, and seal the edges with salt mud. Place the medicine bowl over charcoal fire. Inside the foot of the covered bowl, spread wetted, pulped paper about four or five fen thick. Keep moistening it with water regularly. The process is complete when green smoke emerges upon adding water. Remove and allow to cool completely. Open to inspect the medicine; those that turn cinnamon-red are considered superior. Usage: After wiping the affected area clean with a damp cloth, mix the medicine with saliva and apply.
Second Prescription:
Malachite (Shi Lv) (3 qian), Calomel (Qing Fen) (1 qian).
Mix with strong vinegar and apply. Five applications will eradicate the root cause.
Third Prescription:
River snail (Tian Luo) (one, remove the apex of the shell), place one kernel of Croton seed (Ba Dou Ren) inside. Crush and place within the snail shell. After one night, it will liquefy. Take the liquid and apply to eradicate the root cause. Apply at night several times.
Fourth Prescription:
Water snail (Shui Tian Luo) (one, remove the apex of the shell), place one fen of Borneol (Bing Pian) inside to liquefy. Dip fingers in the water and rub the affected area several times until healed. Avoid eating bamboo shoots for life; consumption will cause recurrence.
Cinnabar (Zhu Sha) ground into powder, mixed with white sugar in proportion, applied to the affected area. Pain stops immediately and flesh regeneration begins.
Periostracum Cicadae (Chan Tui) (6 qian, remove head, feet, and wings, dry by roasting, then grind into powder). Take with aged wine. Sweating leads to recovery. Another method: Fritillaria Bulb (Chuan Bei Mu) without heart (1 qian), Apricot Seed (Xing Ren) peeled... [text cuts off here].
Thousand-Year Calcined Stone (Qian Nian Duan Shi) (ground into powder), Jinwen Rhubarb (Jin Wen Da Huang) (cut into small pieces, stir-fried in a pot with the calcined stone until slightly red).
Grind all into powder. Apply externally to metal-induced wounds (Jin Chuang). It can stop bleeding and promote tissue regeneration. It also treats burns and scalds. Mix with sesame oil or tea juice and apply.
Specifically treats knife wounds and injuries with bleeding.
Purple Sappanwood (Zi Jiang Xiang) ground into fine powder, applied to the affected area.
Soaked in soup, yellow mud pounded with brine applied, heals immediately. Pig hoof shells, preserved nature (calcined to retain medicinal properties), mixed with sesame oil for application yields miraculous effects. Pig hair may also be used. Or use Rehmannia Root (Sheng Di Huang) water. Cotton paper.
White Radish (Bai Luo Bo) crushed for juice, instilled orally, restores consciousness immediately.
Treats burns from fire or hot oil, and cases involving detached muscle/flesh, stopping pain immediately.
Calcite (Han Shui Shi) (used raw), Rhubarb (Da Huang), Phellodendron Bark (Huang Bo) in equal parts, ground into powder. Mix with fragrant camphor oil for external application. For broken, weeping lesions, sprinkle the dry powder directly.
