Burn gourd shell (Lagenariae Siccus Fructus) to ash while retaining its medicinal properties (Cun Xing). Mix with Sesame Oil (Sesami Oleum) and apply to the lesion, leaving the center of the wound uncovered (Liu Tou). After three days, the toxin will be absorbed, and the wound will close. Alternatively, use peach branch (Persicae Ramulus) or bamboo branch (Bambusae Caulis), remove the green skin, scrape off the flesh, pound it soft, steam it until cooked, and apply externally.
Amber (1 qian, stir-fried on a new tile) Pearl (4 fen) Ivory (1 qian, calcined until black on the outside and white on the inside) Borneol (2 fen) Frankincense (Zhi, processed)
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Sprinkle onto a plaster and apply. The wound will heal immediately.
Effective for back carbuncles (Bei Ju) and malignant sores.
Dry sugarcane residue (Sacchari Officinalis Residuum), calcine it over fire while retaining its medicinal properties, and grind into a fine powder. Cut a small bamboo tube to match the size of the wound, tie one end tightly with fine linen cloth, sieve the ash onto the wound surface, and fill the tube completely.
This treats already ulcerated sores.
There was a case where a person suffered from a back carbuncle that had ulcerated to the size of a bowl face. Upon examination, only a membrane separated the wound from the internal organs; he believed he would surely die. Someone passed down this prescription, which resulted in his recovery.
Take one large crucian carp (Cyprinus carpio), remove the entrails, fill them with goat dung, bake until charred black, grind into a fine powder, and sprinkle dry onto the wound. The wound will contract and heal. This has been tested repeatedly with consistent results.
It must be used when pus is scant and tissue regeneration is about to begin.
Apply mulberry leaves (Mori Folium) boiled in vinegar to the lesion. The wound will close.
Dragon Bone (2 qian) Dragon's Blood (3 qian) Elephant Skin (1 liang, fried) Catechu (2 qian) Calamine (2 qian) Frankincense and Myrrh (each appropriate amount)
Grind together into a powder, store in a porcelain bottle. When using, take a small amount and sprinkle onto a plaster.
Mercurous Chloride (1.5 fen) Litharge (3 fen) White Lead Powder (1 qian) Borneol (3 li) Dragon Bone (1 fen) Silver Cinnabar (5 fen) Red Stone Lip (appropriate amount)
Grind the above into a powder. Mix with rendered pork fat (Shu Zhu You) and apply to the affected area. Cover with a plaster externally.
Used for promoting tissue regeneration.
Calamine (5 qian) Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng) Rehmannia Root (Sheng Di) Licorice Root (Gan Cao) Forsythia Fruit (Lian Qiao) Trichosanthes Root (Hua Fen) Angelica Dahurica Root (Bai Zhi) Rhubarb (Da Huang) (each 3 qian)
Decoct these herbs into a thick liquid. Heat Calamine until red-hot and quench it in the decoction. Repeat the quenching process multiple times until the liquid is exhausted. Allow to cool, grind into a fine powder, add 2 fen of Borneol, and mix evenly.
