Grind the above ingredients into powder. Form pills using rice paste, sized like millet grains. Take 5 pills per dose, delivered with water prepared by grinding a small amount of Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis). For areas showing cyanotic veins, moxa-burn with a lamp wick dozens of times.

Peel walnuts and chew them thoroughly. Wrap the pulp in cotton to resemble a nipple shape, allowing the infant to suck the juice until fully consumed. Once the foul matter within the abdomen is expelled, there will be no risk of sores or toxins.

Decoct and take as needed; this method has proven repeatedly effective. Whenever measles/smallpox cases occur in neighboring households, feed this to the child to prevent infection; if infection occurs, the symptoms will be mild.
Another formula for attenuating smallpox:
Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1.5 fen, purified), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1.5 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 fen), Qidai (Umbilical Cord, from the same person, calcined on tile and preserved with residual carbon).
Grind each of these four medicines into fine powder separately. Mix with honey. Apply to the infant's mouth completely over the course of one day and night; then smallpox will not erupt, or if it does, the eruption will be sparse.
Another formula:
