This substance (leek vinegar) must be prepared in advance.
Take a handful of Chinese chives (Allium tuberosum), cut them into inch-long segments, and put them into a wine pot. Soak them with boiling vinegar, seal the large opening tightly, and apply the small opening to the nose; the patient will regain consciousness immediately. If the patient is in a coma and yawning, use Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [whole] 5 qian, Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 2 qian, Pao Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum) 4 fen, Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparatum) 4 fen, Tao Ren (Persicae Semen) 10 grains, and Hong Hua (Carthami Flos) 8 fen. Decoct in water and take orally. If sweating is excessive, reduce the dosage of Chuan Xiong to 5 fen. If there is acute pain in the lower abdomen, add Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma) 1 qian. If sweating continues profusely like oil, add Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 4 qian.
Postpartum blood dizziness (Xue Yun).
Treatment for postpartum agalactia (inability to lactate).
Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis) [2 pieces], Zhu Qian Ti (Anterior trotters of Sus scrofa domestica) [1 piece]. Boil until tender and consume both the meat and the broth together; lactation will resume immediately.
Another prescription:
Zhu Qian Ti (Anterior trotters of Sus scrofa domestica) [3 pieces], Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis) 5 qian, Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 5 qian. Cook thoroughly and consume the trotters along with the soup; lactation will resume immediately.
Nursing mothers should avoid eating pig liver.
Hei Zhi Ma (Sesamum indicum L., fried until charred and ground into powder) 3 qian. Take with hot wine, or mixed with pork trotter soup for better effect.
Lu Lu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba), Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla) [each 1 qian], Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus) 2 qian, Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) 1 qian. Grind all into powder. Use one anterior trotter of Sus scrofa domestica, decoct with half wine and half water, and take the powder with the decoction. Do not use salt; this yields miraculous results.
Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 3 qian. Decoct and take orally to retract the protruding tongue immediately.
Treatment for postpartum glossoptosis (protrusion of the tongue that cannot be retracted).
Grind Zhu Sha (Cinnabaris) into powder and apply it to the tongue. Alternatively, throw a basin onto the ground suddenly to startle the patient, which will cause the tongue to retract. This method also treats glossoptosis occurring after sexual intercourse. Heat the sole of the woman's shoe and place it on top of her head.
You Zi Pi (Citri Grandis Pericarpium) [2 pieces], Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) 0.5 jin, Su Geng (Perillae Caulis) 1 liang, Guo Hai Feng Teng (Sinomenii Caulis) 4 liang, Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 1 liang, Qie Gan (Solanis Melonganae Caulis) 1 liang. Decoct in a large pot of water, pour into a basin, have the patient sit over the basin, surround with cotton quilts to prevent steam from escaping. After fumigation twice, the decoction can be taken orally.
Treatment for postpartum wind-stroke causing mouth lock (trismus), spasms of hands and feet, resembling opisthotonos (arched back like a bow). Also for postpartum blood dizziness, unconsciousness, rigid limbs, or severe vomiting and diarrhea approaching death. Wei Bei Jing Jie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), lightly roasted and ground into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with wine, or taken warm with child's urine (Tong Bian). If trismus prevents swallowing, pry open the teeth and instill the medicine; this is also effective. Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica) is an essential herb for postpartum conditions. Opisthotonos is a critical adverse sign in postpartum cases; only one or two out of ten patients survive this condition. For confusion and fainting caused by fever, treat as described above. For wind-stroke with trismus in men and women, take 2 qian with wine for immediate recovery.
